(Kylie's P.O.V.)

"See ya," I called as Jessica Milton left the science lab, leaving me as the last one still there. It wasn't uncommon. I liked to tidy up after the student council meetings.
I was wearing my red and white volleyball-letterman jacket over a white t-shirt with a sweetheart neckline, and tattered boyfriend jeans with a pair of black vans.
I erased all the homecoming theme ideas off the dry-erase board, and made sure all the caps were pressed fully onto the markers.
I was putting my papers and English book into my shoulder bag when all of a sudden--
  "HOLY -- !"
  CRASH
I left my bag on the lab table and ran into the hallway. There was nothing. I ran around the corner.
Evan, Jake Mathews and Ryan Adams all stood around a large trophy cabinet surrounded by shattered glass, all wide eyed.
"It was an accident!" yelled Evan.
"How could you accidentally knock over a trophy cabinet three times in two years?!" Jake exclaimed.
  "I don't know!!"
"What did you do?!" I screamed, making my presence known.
All three boys stared at me. Jake and Ryan looked afraid, but Evan smiled and practically melted.
"Hey, Kylie," he said in an airy voice. He was dressed as one would expect him to dress: a black beanie, a plain white tee with a red flannel over it, faded blue jeans and hiking boots.
"What the heck did you do?!" I shouted running towards the situation.
"Well, I said that the wrestling trophy was taller than me while I was kneeling," Jake started, "and Ryan bet that it wasn't that big, so we were trying to get it out so that we could measure it correctly but... it fell."
Jake was wearing his soccer jersey, and boot cut, dark wash jeans with converse.
"Will you go out with me?" Evan asked.
"No!! Ugh--You guys are such--such idiots!!" I screamed.
"Hey, help us get it back up," Ryan said, wearing a Black Sabbath vintage band-shirt, probably a hand-me-down from his dad or something, black jeans and combat boots.
"You're so pretty, Kylie," Evan said and I rolled my eyes.
"Don't think you're getting away with this," I told them all as I helped them lift the case back up.
"I love you," Evan told me, picking up the other side of the cabinet.
"No. You. Don't!" I grunted as we pushed the case back up against the wall. One of the glass doors of the cabinet was completely shattered, and all of the trophies were on the floor, but remarkably, remained intact.
"Yes I do," Evan cooed, walking over. I tried not to look at him.
He was really cute, anybody could see that. With his thrift-shop, grunge-rock style and his signature hipster glasses (that he didn't actually need), he was already a mile ahead of the other boys in my school, as far as clothes go. And on paper, he was a genius, with straight A's in everything except Spanish, which he clearly struggled in, mixing up 'hola' and 'aloha' the first day of class. If he weren't such an idiot outside of class, I'd go out with him at the drop of a hat.
But he was just so annoying!
"Well, I don't love you," I told him.

"I know," he said. "But that doesn't change how I feel."
"Come on, Ky," Ryan said. "Would you really get us suspended knowing how in love Evan is with you?"
I glanced from Evan to Ryan, and said "Yeah, I think I would." I turned to walk back to the science classroom.
"Please!" Jake said, "Please, don't tell your dad!"
  "Why shouldn't I?" I asked, not stopping.
"Because you're super awesome?" Ryan suggested.
  "Hm... no," I said.
"Because you're absolutely perfect," Evan said, not as a plea, but more like he actually believed it.
"I wish," I said, walking into the classroom and grabbing my bag.
"Because if you do, Evan will get expelled and sent away!" Ryan said.
"Dude!" Evan shouted and I heard him smack Ryan's chest.
I turned to stare at them.
  "What?" I asked.
Evan looked from me, to Ryan, to me again, then sighed. He turned away and ran his hands through his hair, pushing his beanie off which fell to the floor.
"I, uh," he started, "I'm kind of a foster kid, and, uh, they'll send me to a new foster home if I get into too much trouble..."
I covered my gaping mouth with my hand. Sure, I kind of hated Evan, but even though I wouldn't admit it out loud, I knew I also kind of liked him. And I didn't want him to be relocated.
"Okay, fine," I said. "But I don't like lying for you."
"We're not asking you to," Jake said, all three of them perking up. "Just don't bring it up."
"There was a student council meeting today, they're gonna ask me what happened considering I'm student body president," I said.
  "Good point," Evan said.
"Oh, just say, you heard a crash and ran to see what it was and saw the trophy cabinet had fallen and so you put it back up. That's not a lie. All that stuff happened," Jake said.
"What about the security camera?" I asked.
"Oh, the one in that hallway is broken," Ryan said.
  "What?? Since when??" I asked.
  They hesitated.
"Since we broke it..." Evan said. I groaned and rolled my eyes.
  "...Idiots!" I yelled.
  "I love you," Evan said.
"Oh, shut up, Evan," I said and pushed past them out of the room.
