"Sage, wake up dear."
I cracked open my eyes, yawning as I did. My eyes fell on Mason who was looking down at me with a slight smile.
"Good morning." I say, sitting up with my back against the wooden headboard.
"Good morning, I've ran you a bath already. Miss Charlotte wants to do some shopping and would like you to accompany her into town." Mason says.
I sigh, Charlotte knows how much I hate shopping.
"Alright then." I climb out of my warm, soft bed and walked into the bathroom.
I half expected Mason to follow me but he stayed and fixed my bed.
I didn't bother to close the door and striped naked.
I glanced back at Mason, who paused to watch me with this unreadable expression on his face.
He discarded the bedsheets he was in the middle of folding on the bed and in a few short steps, he was in front of me.
"Yes?" I ask innocently.
"Playing innocent are we?" He smirks
"Is it working?"
"Not even in the slightest."
It was my turn to smirk now." Oh well, it was worth a try."
I turned around and eased myself into the hot water.
Mason bent down." I'll deal with you later."
He straightened up, grabbing a towel from the dresser and rested it neatly on the bathroom counter.
"Call for me when you're finished." He says.
I nodded as he left the bathroom, closing the door behind him.About 30 minutes later, I was dressed and fed.
Charlotte stood next to me, fidgeting abit which made me glance across at her.
She was staring straight ahead, I followed her gaze and my eyes fell on Mason who was walking towards us.
She really is smitten by him.
"Sorry about that ladies. I was just checking if we needed anything else for the party this evening." He smiled at us. "shall we?"
He opened the door for us, letting us walk out first before he closed the door behind him.
Mason as gentleman as they come, helped us into the carriage.
After a second or so, it began to move.
Mason sat opposite Charlotte and I, staring out the window in what seemed like deep thought.
I glanced at Charlotte and little to my surprise, she was dreamily staring at Mason.
My gaze returned to Mason and I couldn't help but to stare also.
The man is beautiful.
Its sickening really...
I rolled my eyes just as Mason's grey eyes flickered in my direction, a ghost of a smirk on his face.
We stared at each other for a moment, lost deep in each other's eyes.
I felt a strange feeling, one that I haven't felt in years.
I looked away, turning my attention out the window at the passing county side.
Was that admiration? Or something else..
"Tomorrow is your final day with us, is that right Miss Charlotte?" I heard Mason say now.
"Oh yes, I wish I could stay longer but I must return back to my studies." Charlotte answers.
I keep my eyes glued outside.
"You surely will be missed, it's been a pleasure catering to you these few short days." Mason says and I could almost hear the smile in his smooth voice.
I looked at Mason who glanced in my direction but didn't shift his attention to me.
"Thank you for catering to me." The smile on her face was so big that her cheeks looked like they were gonna burst.
Finally we reached London, I couldn't wait to get out of the carriage.
Mason got out first and helped Charlotte out, he gestured for me to take his hand but I instead grabbed the lace hem of the baby blue dress I was wearing and got out of the carriage myself.
A stone cold expression passed over his face but it went as quickly as it came but I still caught it nonetheless.
"Oh this cute!" Was what came out Charlotte's mouth every time we passed something in a store window and then we would be in there for about 10 minutes each, it was beyond tiring really.
My attention drafted to Mason who held a mountain of clothing bags and shoe boxes in his hand, looking completely done with the day but nonetheless, smiled warmly at Charlotte anytime she turned to ask him a question or hand him a box.
"Sage, you haven't gotten anything for yourself." Charlotte noted. "You must get something, there's such pretty things around."
"Oh no, I'm quite alright." I shook my head, making my blonde curls hit me in the face.
Charlotte made a face like a child would, sticking out her bottom lip.
"Hmmm fine, I'll just pick something out for you."
I opened my mouth to object but decided against it and just nodded at her.
It made no sense trying to argue with Charlotte.
"Oh! Let's look in here." Charlotte squealed.
I looked up at the small, charming boutique as I followed her in with Mason following close behind.
I aimlessly walked around, bored out of my mind.
Something or rather someone caught my eye outside the boutique.
I glanced back at Mason, who was talking to Charlotte and seemingly not paying attention to me.
Great, here's my chance.
I quickly exited the store, knowing that Mason wouldn't be able to stop me in that moment.
"Hey!" I shout, yanking up my dress to walk faster.
My eyes locked on to the tall young with wavy black hair who paused to glance over his shoulder before this huge smile came across his face.
"Sage?!" He exclaimed, running back to me almost at full speed.
The familiar stranger hugged me tightly off the floor, my feet just dangling.
"Oh my gosh, LUKA!" I exclaimed, my arms around his neck almost choking him out by mistake.
I pulled back to look at his face better.
Olive smooth as a baby's ass skin with freckles sprayed all across his face, jawline so strong it could cut you and warm, bright hazel eyes.
His firm arms still held me up, like I weighted nothing.
Then we both realized we were staring at each other, Luka chuckled as he set me on my feet and I fixed my dress.
"It's such a weird coincidence that you would be here in this very market and at the same exact time as I am." I say.
"It really is one hell of a coincidence, I actually just off the ship from France not too long ago." Luka smiles and I felt my knees go weak.
I should explain who Luka is; he is lord and sole heir of the Kingsworth family estate. Similar to me, his family wealth and reputation holds no bounds.
We used to be neighbors with I was an early teen, we spend countless hours together and had a beautiful bond until his parents sent him away to study in France at an all boys college.
This is first time in 8 years we've seen together.
Looking at him made all the memories come rushing back, all the endless hours of running around our families estates, the dinners parties that we would sneak out of and roam around town, laughing our heads off at the most random stuff and the night we sat in my treehouse after drinking abit of gin that we stole from his parents liquor cabinet and confessed how much we were in love with each other.
"Are you just visiting ?" I ask, desperately trying to clear my head of of memories us kissing and exploring each other's bodies that night.
"Actually no, I'm indefinitely back home now." Luka answers but his eyes flickered behind me.
"Miss Sage, you really shouldn't run off like that."
Why was I suddenly nervous?
I turned to see Mason standing there with more boxes in hand and Charlotte standing beside him.
He had a smile on his face but his lips were tightly pressed together in what seemed to be annoyance.
"What if you were kidnapped?" Mason continued.
"I'm sorry." I say." I usually don't run off like that."
Mason turned his attention to Luka." And who might you be?"
"Lord Luka Kingsworth of the heir of the Kingsworth estate and Sage's bestfriend." Luka answers.
I furrowed my eyebrows at the bestfriend statement, we would seen each other in 10 years...does he still seen me as his bestfriend after so long?
"Oh, Kingsworth. You're our neighbor. I'm Mason Steele, Miss Sage's right hand." Mason says, gesturing to Charlotte. "This is Miss Charlotte Adams, Sage's childhood friend."
"Ah yes I do remember Sage mentioning a Charlotte to me before. Nice to meet both of you." Luka smiled, before turning his attention back to me, eyes twinkling.
"I have some meetings to attend to, my mother mentioned that we got invited to your family's party tonight, so I'll be there." He hugged me, and whispered in my hair." And you better save me a dance."
I shivered slightly, my attraction to him going up once again but it wasn't like it wasn't there already.
All I could manage was a nod.
Luka waved bye and walked away in the opposite direction.
"Well isn't he a pure hottie" Charlotte commented as we made our away back to the carriage.
"You could say that again. The man is aging like fine wine." I laughed.
When we finally reached the carriage, Mason quietly helped us inside, him sitting opposite me, Charlotte beside and her purchases beside him.
Mason looked like he was in his own little world as he blankly stared out the window.
When we arrived back at the manor, he still hadn't said anything to me.
Frankly it made me abit annoyed.
Charlotte yawned as he entered the house.
"Someone wake me up when it's time to get ready for the party. I need a nap." She huffed as she walked off towards her room.
Flynn carried Charlotte's stuff up to her room behind her.
I made my way to my own room. I let my hair down from the ponytail it was trapped in, running my hair through my long blonde curls.
There a knock at the door.
"Come in " I shouted as kicked off my flats, walking into the bathroom to locate my hair brush.
"This is yours." Mason's voice jumped me.
My eyes fell on a large white box in his gloved hands.
I took it from him, passing him and dropping it on the dresser.
"Thank you." I mumbled.
"What's the real deal with you and Luka?"
Ha, there it is.
"What do you mean? We're friends." I answer.
"Oh no, there's romantic history there. It isn't hard to see."
"What are you talking about?"
Mason narrowed his eyes at me." Don't play dumb. Friends don't look at each other the way you two do."
I fell quiet.
"You're silence confirms my suspicions. You will be notified of when the party will be starting. Call if you need me." He left without another word or even a glance in my direction.
Okay that stung.
I groaned loudly, throwing myself on the bed.
I have a feeling this party is going to different...
