I stood beside Charlotte who fidgeted with excitement.
Why?
Prince Samuel Of The 8th Kingdom stood in front of us in all his princely glory a few feet away from us.
I kept the grip I had on Charlotte's hand steady.
She's ever so slightly obsessed with the prince.
Either it was the wealth, the good looks or his strangely enough- pleasant personality.
Recently, his kingdom announced that the prince was looking for a wife and since then Charlotte made it her mission to be noticed by Samuel.
I couldn't care either way.
The three of us used to be the best of friends we were kids but Samuel's mother married the king of that land and Sam automatically became a prince, they moved away and Luka went abroad. Leaving me by myself.
"Let me go." Charlotte tried wiggling her hand away but to no avail.
"No." I say simply.
My eyes following Mason, who stood confidently beside my mother.
He looked so calm and relaxed in this social environment.
"Why?" Charlotte whined.
I narrowed my eyes at her before dropping her wrist.
"Go on then. Show me what it takes to bag a prince." I say.
She had no idea that we knew each other.
She paused, clearly confused by my actions but none the less, fixed her hair and smoothed down her dress before making a beeline for Samuel.
I watched from afar, somehow she caught his attention.
Well that's surprising.
With all the people swarmed around the Prince, I was sure he wouldn't even glance in her direction but yet, she holding his attention and... making him laugh?
Only Luka and I could get him to laugh like that.
Speaking of Luka...
I started looking around the room, spotting his parents but not him.
"Looking for me?" A deep familiar voice came.
I turned, my huge dress turning after me.
"You? Ha no." I wave him off playfully.
He flashed me a bright smile." Really? Well was I horribly mistaken."
I smiled at him."Have you spoken to Samuel yet?"
"No actually. Have you?" Luka asks, his attention to Samuel was.
"No. I'm not sure if I should." I reply." Our last encounter wasn't the best."
"Ah yes. The girlfriend situation."
"Come on Luka, the girl was a completely bitch that destroyed his look on love."
He looked down at me now." Well that was very much true. You didn't have to beat her up Sage. It wasn't very lady like."
I rolled my eyes." You sound like my mother."
"Well she was right. Remember how much money your parents had to pay out of her to keep about it." Luka says.
"Oh I remember and I very much remember how nasty of a fight Sam and I had." I say.
Luka opened his month to say something but a voice cut him off.
"Miss Sage. Mr. Luka" The polite smile on Mason's face almost made me forget how cold he was towards me not too long ago.
"Oh hello Mason." I say and Luka nodded.
"Can I borrow you for a moment? There's something I forgot to give you." Mason says.
"Oh. I'll be right back, keep an eye on Charlotte for me." I say to Luka, walking away with Mason beside me.We walked away from the party, down the hallway lead to my bedroom.
No words were spoken for a while.
I didn't know what to say, I did find it strange that he forgot to give me something.
Mason's been working here for weeks and this is the first time he's forgotten something and if it was so important to pull me away from the party, why didn't here just bring it right to me?
I didn't realise we reached my room until Mason opened the door.
I didn't step foot into the room properly before I heard the door slam shut.
Jumping, I turned to see Mason staring at me.
"Did I scare?" He asked.
"Abit." I admitted.
"Good." He took slow steps towards, making me reel back.
Fear held me in that moment.
That predatory look on his face was not only turning me on but scaring me also.
My back hit the dresser and Mason pressed himself right up against me.
"You know, seeing you with Luka is.... really starting to annoy me. So tell me what's your relationship like?" Mason asks, trailing is hand up my chest painfully slow.
"I already told you. We are just friends."
Without warning, He grabbed me by the neck but there was no added pressure.
"I'm not referring to now. I mean before." Mason whispers huskly in my ear.
With his hand on my neck and minty breathe on my face, my body was on fire and pressed my legs tighter together, something he noticed.
"Oh... does this arouse you Sage?"
I shook my head. Knowing that I was lying.
"Really? It doesn't? How about this?"
His other hand trailed underneath my dress, the contact made me squirm.
A wicked smile crosses his face but he paused for a moment before removing his hands completely.
Mason stepped back, a look of slight concern on his face.
I stood there trying to catch my breath, legs feeling weak.
"What's wrong?" I ask.
"Forgive me for asking this but... are you a virgin?" Mason asks.
His question threw me off.
By, tradition I should be a virgin til I am wed that way I truly and purely only belong to my husband but... I wasn't.
"Oh my. You aren't." Mason sighed before I had a chance to lie.
"No. I'm not." I admitted.
"I don't mind if you are wondering. I ask because of how your body react to my touch, like you yearned for it and showed no fear. Actions a virgin wouldn't make." Mason says. "But back to my original question. What is it with you and Luka?"
"Um... okay fine." I sighed, sitting on my bed." Luka and I were lovers for sometime when we were teenagers."
"I'm assuming he's who..." Mason made an gesture with his hand.
I nod.
"I figured." He sounded annoyed. "Is that something I have to worry about?"
"No." In fact, I had no idea myself.
"Good. Now I'm sure someone is looking for us." Mason says and I fix my hair and adjusted my dress back to it's original spot.
"Do I look okay?" I ask.
"Beautiful. Let's go."10 minutes later, we blended back into the party like we never left.
Luka wasn't where i left him which wasn't surprising.
Mason hurried off to the kitchen to oversee the diner table layout.
While not playing attention to my surroundings, I bumped into someone.
I didn't even look up but mumbled a "sorry" and walked away.
"That's no way to treat an old friend."
I paused and turned.
Prince Samuel gave me a small smile but I could tell he was nervous.
"I'm sorry Prince Samuel. I didn't know it was you." I say, giving a little curtsey.
"It's fine. It's nice to see you again, I was actually just speaking to Luka." Samuel says.
"Oh? That's nice." It was awkward. It was so clear, we hated being so formal with each other but we didn't know how to do anything else.
After a few seconds, Samuel sighed loudly.
"Okay I can't do this." Sam says as he stepped forward and pulled me into a bear hug.
The non royal action jumped me but I didn't miss a beat and returned his hug.
He felt so warm and smelt so.... princely if that made any sense.
He was tease for a moment then relaxed in my arms like a huge weight had been lifted.
"I missed you Sage." Sam says.
"I miss you too Sam." I reply.
We pulled away from each other not realizing at first that other guest were watching us but Sam didn't seem to care.
I looked up at Sam now, the close proximity allowed me to see this features better.
Wavy blonde hair.
Upturned baby blue eyes.
Pale clean skin.
Full pink lips.
Sharp yet so gentle features.
In short, I always found him attractive and well so did every other woman.
"There you two are!" Luka appeared beside us, this huge smile on his face. "Look, the gang is all back together." Luka says.
Sam and I narrowed our eyes at him.
"You've been drinking haven't you?" Sam asks.
"Yes of course. It's a party after all and royalty is in the house." Luka's smile just got bigger.
We laughed. We found Charlotte as she was looking for us strangely enough.
She was rather surprised to see Sam and I all friendly and I explained to her that we were friends for years.
Samuel seemed to like her which I didn't mind.
They were both my 2 out of 3 best and oldest friends so if they got married then hey, that's a plus for me.
I didn't see much of Mason for the rest of the night.
I assumed he was strapped on to my mother's side somewhere.
The 4 of us drank, ate and danced the night away.
Looking at my friends having fun made me feel so happy and warm.
"Sage?" Luka tapped my shoulder and I turned. We were in a crowd of socialites now, not realizing we got separated from Samuel and Charlotte.
"Yes?" I answer.
Luka tiled my chin up and kissed me.
I blinked in surprise at the sudden kiss but kissed him back nonetheless.
"Still as good as the first time" He whispers and all I could do is smile. The party started whining down on at 12 am.
I was beyond tired.
The alcohol taking a slight toll on me.
I barely managed to make it to my bedroom, closing the door behind me.
I jumped back.
Mason stood near my bedroom, an angered looked very present on his face.
"Why are you here?" I ask.
He didn't say anything but in one shift movement, I was laying on my back on my bed with him hovering over me.
How?
"I thought you said I had nothing to worry about but it seems like you were lying." Mason says, clearly trying to take his anger under control.
"It didn't lie."
He laughed humorlessly." Oh but you did lie. I saw you two kissing."
Shit.
"I can explain." I start but he covers my mouth with his hand that I realise wasn't gloved.
"I don't want an explanation Sage. I want you get something through your pretty little head. You are mine until I say otherwise. Understand?" He more stated than asked.
I nod and he removed his hand.
"Good now be a good little girl and go to bed."
Mason eased off the bed and walking away but stopped." The only reason why I'm not fucking your brains out right now is because I have cleaning up to do but.... other than that. My dear, you aren't safe."
He exited the room and I just laid there.
Mind and heart racing.
Geez, why is everything with him so scary yet... so arousing.
