Midoriya was carrying a basket full of seeds when he tripped on a rock and fell, the seeds spilling on the ground.

"Midoriya!" One of the village elders yelled as he walked up. Midoriya, who was holding his hurt foot, looks up at him. His green Yukata now had dirt stains on it.

"Those seeds are the last that we have. Pick them up before the birds get them. Can you do nothing right?" He scolds at him. Midoriya nods and starts to pick up the seeds. A man walks up. He was the leader of the village. His name was Yagi.

"Be easy on the boy, He lost his mother a month ago." Yagi says. The elder looks at him.

"And if we aren't careful, we all will suffer the same fate." He said. They then look out on to the fields, seeing the dry and cracked earth. Some of the young ones who are not yet old enough for marriage were looking for the seeds that didn't sprout so they could save them, but many knew they were lost in the ground.

"We have prayed to the gods, yet they send no water." Yagi says. The elder nods and looks at Midoriya, who is still picking up the seeds.

"These seeds are the last of the harvest for the previous year that we managed to dig out again. We will survive winter, but if things do not change by spring, we all will parish." The elder said. Yagi nods. They were lucky to have found them.

"I know. Have we not been praying to them enough?" Yagi asks and looks up to the mountain they had settled by.

"Maybe they have moved to a new mountain." Yagi said. Suddenly, one of the villagers runs over.

"Sir!" She yells and holds an empty and dry bucket.

"This was from our east well. Its completely dry." She says. Yagi walks up and feels it. The wood is dry and has a small layer of mud on the bottom but that too was dry.

"What about our north and south wells?" He asks. She looks worried.

"They still have water, but its not much. We will be lucky to have enough that will last though winter, even with the white rain." She says. Yagi looked worried. His village may be small, with only two hundred people, but they all needed to be fed and have water.

"Sir" He heard and looked at the elder.

"There is one thing we can do." He says and looks to the mountain. Yagi looked also.

"The gods might be angry with us. Maybe we miss treated the land in some way." He said. This mountain was special because it held the gods of the Todoroki's. They were the gods that formed the land and helped all that lived on it.

"But how did we miss treat the land? We are respectful and pray to them. Every month we leave them some offerings, the best that we have. We did that this month also, already placing them in the shrine on the mountain." He says and looks at the elder.

"Maybe the offerings and prayers aren't enough. Maybe they want more." The elder said and sighed.

"My father told me that when the village was first built by his great great grandfather, they would, once every ten winters, send a mortal to them as an offering." The elder said. The leader looked at him. The old ways were taught in stories for the young ones, but they stopped that after the sun god told them too.

"Your not saying we send one of our own as a sacrifice, are you?" Yagi asks. The elder nods and looks back, seeing Midoriya was now standing and walking again, being careful.

"I am and Midoriya should be the one." He said. Yagi looked mad.

"Why? Why should we disobey the gods orders?" Yagi asked. The elder looks at him.

"Because this might be a sign from them that they wish for us to start it again." He said. Yagi looked down.

"Why the boy? He has only seen fifteen winters." Yagi asks in a sadden voice, but he knew what the elder would say.

"He has no family, yes? He is always tripping or messing things up. That and when he was born, a strange golden rain fell upon him and him alone. He is cursed by the gods himself! Look at who he wished to marry. Its not normal." The elder said loudly. Yagi looked at Midoriya, who was trying to balance the basket and open the door to the seed hut. While what the elder said was true about his birth, Yagi had taken the boy in when his mother passed since he was denied marriage by the elders because of who the boy wished to marry. He cared for the boy like his own child.

"I...I will ask the boy." He says and walks to the hut where Midoriya was now in.

"Midoriya." He says and Midoriya looks.

"Yes sir." He says. Yagi sighs.

"I need to speak with you." He says. Midoriya looks worried, but gave a nod.
