There was so much too see in Brisbane. It reminded Amanda a lot of LA.
"Ac or breeze? Marilyn said while looking straight ahead.
He wasn't able to look around. Brisbane was busy and he didn't really want to have an accident on his first day in Australia.
"Ac. I'm gonna live this luxurious life." Amanda said while laughing.
"Ahah okay."
And with that Marilyn switched on the aircon.
The two drived for a bit until they reached a sign that read 'North Lakes."
"Hey! That's were my parents live!" Amanda yelled a little too loudly.
Marilyn scrunched his face from her high pitched screen and looked over to Amanda.
"So....are we meeting your family first or mine? Also I've got to tell you something...."
Marilyn was starting to get anxious and he was sweating furiously. Amanda took note of it and tried to relax Marilyn.
"Hey, what's up?" Amanda asked in a reassuring voice.
"Well, I...."
Marilyn sighed and gave in. He didn't want to keep lying.
"My parents.....are dead. My dad only died just last year in July."
Anyone could see that Marilyn was trying to keep himself together but people could also see that he was just about to break. Amanda felt so bad. She didn't mean to upset him and he was now on the verge of tears. Amanda gestured Marilyn to pull over and she rapped her long arms around his chest. Feeling that made Marilyn let out a small smile. The loved hugs. He may seem like this tough, unaffectionate, old guy but he was really a softy who loved cuddles and affection. The two stayed like that until Marilyn had seemed to have calmed down. He wiped his face and gently kissed Amanda on the head. Amanda sat back up into her chair and the two sat in silence for a second. Marilyn looked over a Amanda.
"Thank you." He said.
The two continued driving and Marilyn seemed to have gotten over it.
"So what's the address?"
Amanda pulled out the texts between her and her mum and read Marilyn the address. He put the address into the screen.
"Funny how smart these cars are hey?" Marilyn said.
"Yeah." Amanda exclaimed.
After about 5 minutes the two reached what appeared to be Amanda's parents house. It looked very old and chattered. Not what Amanda had imagined. Marilyn made his way around to Amanda's door and opened it up for her, took her hand and helped her out. The two made there way to the front door. Paint was peeling off and the door looked a whole new shade from all the dust and dirt that was growing on it. Amanda hesitated and looked up to Marilyn. He gave her a nod and a smile and Amanda nocked at the door. Then a older looking women came to the door.
"You must be Amanda." The women said while tapping the end of her cigarette on the door.
This was not what Amanda had anticipated.
"And who's this bloke? He your boyfriend." The women laughed and gestured them in come inside.
Amanda and Marilyn took one look at each other and walked inside. They both got hit with a rotten smell of left out food and some other unknown smell. There was burn marks, probably from cigarettes, all I'm the couch, everything was covered by a thick layer of dust and a lot of the stuff in the house looked stolen. Marilyn knew the bad smell was Marijuana straight away. He feared for Amanda a bit so he stayed close by her side.
"So...mum. Where's dad?"
"Ha! The old fucks locked up again. But this is my boyfriend Tony. Said goodaye Tones."
A murmur of ello was yelled down the hallway.
"So you and dad aren't together then?" Amanda asked disappointed.
"Oh no we are but I need someone while he's locked up. It gets lonely you know."
Marilyn looked at Amanda's mother in disgusted but she didn't notice. This isn't what Amanda had expected. She was heartbroken. She just wanted to get out of there and Marilyn was picking up on how uncomfortable Amanda was. The three chatted for an hour or so about Amanda's life in LA but Amanda was finally ready to leave. The two headed to the door and thanked Amanda's mum for the visit.
"No worries, anytime, you are welcome here anytime babe." Amandas mum said while lighting another cigarette.
The two sat in the car and drove off. Amanda didn't want to talk she just wanted to take in what had just happened.
"Um, you want to find a hotel to stay in?"
It was growing late into the afternoon and the two had to find somewhere to stay for the night.
"Sure." Amanda said expressionless.
They drove a few streets from Amanda's mums house and found a hotel.
"This will do." Marilyn said.
Marilyn didn't feel like driving anymore. He was tried and so was Amanda. They got all of there necessities out of the car and made there way to the front desk.
"1 room with a double bed please." Marilyn asked.
"Sure. You look so tired sir." The desk attendant exclaimed.
She had no idea. She made the booking and handed Marilyn the keys.
"Enjoy your stay."
They both made there way to the elevator and put in the 5th floor. The doors opened and they walked until they reached their room. It read '905'.
