After some feedback I was told that this was too long to be a prologue so I have made it my first chapter. There is a lot of information in this chapter that may seem boring but it is important for the outcome of the story. It shows who and why the people are who they are.  I have uploaded the next chapter as well. Please feel free to add comments or feedback of any kind.

Enjoy!

                                                          The Birth of a Goddess

In our world, every one hundred years a new God is born.  It is completely random and tends to make the world, as we know it, turn upside down.  Once a new God has been chosen, the oldest of the Gods passes on.  However, before he or she dies she must search the world and find where to pass on her powers.  Many things are taken into consideration, when choosing whose child to bless with their powers.  No one really knows exactly how, he or she is chosen.  The child is generally picked years in advance .As the family has been chosen, the current God must watch over the family and make sure they are the proper ones to be blessed.

This year it was Xarina's time to move on.  She wasn't unhappy with her time.  One thousand years of being a Goddess is a long time.  Xarina had fought many battles in her time and was ready to move on.  Besides, she had been watching her child's parents for almost 2 years and knew she would have a loving home.  The mother was very smart and the father was full of pride and strength.  In addition, they had such a love for each that she knew this was the right choice.  They were perfect!

This century is no different from the others.  People are frantically trying to find a bedmate, in hopes of being the lucky one bestowed with a God.  The entire year before the birth, the world is filled with madness.  Sex wherever you turn around.  There are men sleeping with prostitutes and the hired help, women sleeping with their friend's husbands and the stable crew.  Sadly, one thing many people tend to confuse and not understand, the child cannot be conceived out of anything but love.  The love that the parents share must be pure and untainted.  Where many consider this a blessing, others would consider a curse.  On the day that the child is born, the mother must die.  Most couples that truly love each other are very afraid of their wives being pregnant during this time.  No one wants to think of loosing that person so dear to him or her.  Nevertheless, it is also a great blessing to be the family bestowed with the next God or Goddess.  It is a turmoil, which many families deal with every year before the blessed Century of the Moon.  Emotions run wildly throughout the year and during every woman's pregnancy.

The Alexandros were no different.  They were a small family, living on a secluded vineyard high in the Alps between Italy and Switzerland.  The woman of the house, Sadie was gentle and kind hearted.  She had lovely chestnut brown hair that waved with every movement she made.  She was neither tall nor short and had skin that was a flawless caramel color.  She was of average height, like most women of their time.  However, she was a bit curvy and most men would call her fat.  But, in all honesty she just had the right curves in all the right spots.  Raffie, Sadie's husband, was a bit rough on the edges.  No matter how often Rafie shaved, his face he always seemed to have a shadow of a beard upon it.  His hair was a dark blond with a bit of red cast to it.  It was about shoulder length.  He stood about 6 feet tall and was made of pure muscle from all the laboring he had done while in their vineyard.  From the day, he met his wife Raffie lived and breathed to please her.  He loved her with every ounce of his being.  Any one that had ever met them could only admire their relationship.  With just a glance, it was apparent how much they loved each other.  Overall, simple is the easiest way to describe the Alexandros.  Nothing mattered to them, but their vineyard and their family.  Sadie and Raffie tried for years, upon years to become pregnant.  When they received the news that Sadie was pregnant, they were ecstatic.  Nothing could compare to the joy and glory they both felt.  Through there 10 years of marriage they had tried and tried but it never happened until now.
