Willa's POV

The weekend went by pretty normal. Bill wasn't that drunk though he was a little buzzed. He mostly stayed in his room, only coming out when the doorbell rang. Signaling him that his "friend" arrived, though I knew he really had a prostitute in there. I could hear moans and the sound of the backboard hitting the wall the whole weekend.

On Monday morning, I stepped into the cool morning air. I started my usual walk to school, plugging in my headphones and listening to my favorite songs.

Once I was in the school gates, I walked inside the building. I came an hour early today because Bill and Mom got in a fight and they wouldn't shut up the whole night. I woke up to the sound of them bickering this morning and decided against going back to sleep.

I simply took a shower, brushed my teeth, put on some clothes and left.

Plus Lina stayed home because she got the flu over the weekend.

I was curious when I saw someone leaning against my locker. As I got closer, I noticed it was just Julian. " Hi," he greeted.

I smiled. " Hello."

To say it was awkward between us is an understatemeht. " How was your weekend?" I asked, trying to make conversation. He was about to answer but he looked behind and just simply left. Not saying a word.

I suddenly felt arms around my shoulders. It was Derek. He leaned down and kissed my cheek. He then walked me to my next class.

" Ah, come on, ladies!" Coach Matthews blew his whistle at the girls in the corner, avoiding getting hit with a dodgeball. I was amongst them.

The only people on the court actually playing were the boys.

" You have 10 seconds to get back on your team or you fail the whole semester!"

At the sound of that, all of us scurried back to our teams. Coach blew his whistle again, signaling the guys to let us through before growing anymore balls.

Coach blew his whistle and the boys started whipping balls at anyone they laid eyes on.

Julian was on my team. I hope he didn't notice that I was following him just so that I wouldn't get hit. Any ball getting whipped at him he would catch. " Following me around the court is going to get your grades up or keep you protected," he smirked as he caught a ball that was being whipped at me.

" I'm just trying to get through this class without another visit to nurse Tammy." I say while dodging a dodgeball.

He smiles a genuine smile at me. " I'll protect you."

I smile back and proceed following him as he murders everyone on the other team-literally.

Derek was the only one left on the other team.

" A little help here!" Julian grunted as he ran back and forth across the gym, getting dodgeballs.

" I can't throw." I scream over at him.

" Sure you can." He runs up to me with the last ball on our side. Derek has been accumulating all the dodgeballs so Julian didn't have anything to throw at him. Then when we had nothing, he would come after us.

Julian put the ball in my hand and stood behind me. He held my arm up and aimed it at Derek.

Everyone watched in shock and silence at what he was doing.

" Let go." He says.

I let go and sure enough, the ball hits Derek straight in the chest. Eveyobe cheered and Coach Matthews blows his whistle.

I turn around and jump on Julian hugging the life out of him. " Thank you! I think you saved me from failing this class!"

He chuckled nervously and stepped away, looking behind me.

I looked back and the only thing I saw was Derek storming out of the gym. He had a murderous face on and was glaring straight ahead of him.

Something told me he wasn't mad because his team lost.

Later that day, as I was in the parking lot walking home, there was a little group of people huddled together. Curiosity took the best of me and I walked over.

The closer I got, the bigger the group got. They were all cheering.

I pushed through the crowd until I was in the front. Julian and Derek were rolling on the ground, fighting each other. Fists were flying and blood was everywhere.

Julian currently had Derek pinned to the ground and punching him repeatedly. Then Derek kneed Julian in the storm in the stomach and returned his punches with kicks. I couldn't go in there, I didn't feel like getting hurt today. Instead, I turned to the person next to me, " What happened?"

" They're fighting over some girl. Apparently Julian hit on some chick that Derek has been interested in."

My heart dropped.

Derek liked someone?

Principal Steinhowser came scurrying to us. " Hey! Everyone get home! Go on! Get!"

Everyone ran off, leaving Derek, Julian, and I. Principal Steinhowser started his rant about how embarrassed he was. Then he directed Julian and Derek to his office. " You too, Ms. DeAngelo." He said.

Great.

On the way to Principal Steinhowser's office, I tried talking to Julian.

" What happened out there?"

" Get away from me." He growled with venom in his words.

Julian's POV

I felt bad talking to Willa like that. You don't really want to yell at the girl that you like but with Derek's words playing in my head, it looked like I wasn't going to be friendly to Willa anytime soon.

Flashback

" If you go after her, I swear I'll tell everyone that you escaped from Military school, Xavier." He pushed me backwards against a locker, almost challenging me.

" I told you to stop using my real name around these people. If they find out who I really am, my ass will be sent back to Military school and for a longer time!" I hissed at him. He smirked and slowly walked towards me.

" Then stay away from Willa."

" You can't force me to stay away from her. This is a free country. Remember?" I smirked.

He scoffed and started walking outside, with me following.

" Just know that I'll be asking Willa out and after she says 'yes' then you'll have to stay away from her." Derek said.

" Over my dead body."

And then I threw the first punch.
