If Shrewpaw Lived, Part 2

It had been a moon since Shrewpaw had caught the pheasant. He was dreaming of having a full belly of fresh-kill when he heard a bunch of voices coming from the clearing. Shrewpaw opened his eyes as Whitepaw burst through the entrance, "Squirrelpaw is back." Whitepaw announced, Shrewpaw couldn't believe his ears. He got to his paws and hurried out of the apprentice's den. Sure enough, there she was. Her dark ginger fur in the middle of a group of cats, Squirrelpaw's eyes locked with his and she raised her tail in a greeting. He returned the gesture, but he could tell she was looking for another cat. A cat she loved more than anyone, "Where's Leafpaw?" Shrewpaw heard Squirrelpaw questioned her father. He saw her tail dropped once she heard Leafpaw was missing. Shrewpaw watched as Squirrelpaw and Brambleclaw followed Firestar and Graystripe into the leader's den. He watched as Brambleclaw made Squirrelpaw laugh. They had gotten closer since Squirrelpaw disappeared.

Shrewpaw was curled up into his nest when she entered the apprentice's den, Whitepaw and Spiderpaw were already asleep. "Shrewpaw?" Squirrelpaw whispered, he turned his head to look at Squirrelpaw. "Is everything alright?" Shrewpaw questioned, "nothing is alright. I saw what happened at the Fourtrees, the twolegs destroyed the Fourtrees. "I also heard about Cloudtail and Brightheart," Squirrelpaw mumbled as she glanced at Whitepaw. "Where did you go?" Shrewpaw asked, she looked like she wanted to tell him.  "Firestar will tell you when he's ready." Squirrelpaw answered, "I'm going to sleep." She yawned and tucked her nose under her tail. Soon she was asleep and Shrewpaw was the only one awake. He trusted her but wherein the name of StarClan did she go. He glanced at the ginger she-cat then at his brother.

"Shrewpaw, we are going training," Thornclaw told his apprentice. "Spiderpaw is coming with us." He added, "what about Mousefur?" Shrewpaw questioning, "she hunting right now." Thornclaw replied. Prey was getting scarce, it was getting hard to feed all the cats. Spiderpaw was cleaning himself when Thornclaw and Shrewpaw padded up to him, "we should be hunting." Spiderpaw growled, Thornclaw gave him a stern look. Shrewpaw agreed with his brother but he knew better than to speak up against Thornclaw"You could be cleaning the elder's den if you like," Thornclaw grunted and walked the fern tunnel. "What's your problem?" Shrewpaw questioned his brother as they walked from the clan to the sandy hollow. "Did you noticed that Squirrelpaw and Brambleclaw are plumper than us?" Spiderpaw growled, "No." Shrewpaw answered, "of course you didn't. Tell me why are you mooning over a cat that abandoned her clan when she is needed most?" Spiderpaw demanded, Shrewpaw rolled his eyes at him, "you have no idea why she left." Shrewpaw spoke calmly. He had noticed but he was just glad Squirrelpaw was alright, "No, and you do?" Spiderpaw questioned, "no, she won't tell me." Shrewpaw growled again, Spiderpaw sniffed.

He had no idea what go his brother's tail in a bunch, but it was annoying. He watched as his brother sped up, leaving Shrewpaw alone. Shrewpaw followed Thornclaw, lost in thought. His brother was probably worried, they all were. Prey was scarce and twolegs were destroying their home. The fourtrees were destroyed during the last gathering, and they were sheltering WindClan. Shrewpaw closed his eyes and took a breath, right now he needs to work on being the best warrior he could be. Not mooning over a she-cat or worrying about anything. Shrewpaw heard shrieks coming from the camp, Thornclaw stopped. "let's go, see what the problem is." Thornclaw told the apprentices and broke into a run. Shrewpaw was hard on his paws keeping pace with Spiderpaw. The sight at camp was chilling, the twolegs were destroying the camp. Shrewpaw leaped down the ravine and to the camp, Ferncloud was trying to get the kits out of the camp. He ran to his mother and picked Birchkit up by the scuff, and followed his mother out of the camp. "Get to Sunningrock!" Firestar called from highrock, Frostfur and Speckletail were leading Longtail out of camp. Shrewpaw broke into a run and burst through the tunnel, he ran to Sunningrock. Dustpelt and Ashfur were already there, probably making sure there were no RiverClan cats. Shrewpaw set Birchkit down at Dustpelt's paws, he watched at his father wrapped his tail around the kit. He raced back to help where he could, but soon every cat but Firestar, Graystripe, and Brambleclaw were in camp checking dens. Shrewpaw walked back to Sunningrocks. He looked around until she stopped Spiderpaw and Squirrelpaw arguing. He let out a sigh and walked over to them. "If you two keep it up, you'll scar and prey left in the forest." Shrewpaw mewed, his brother glared at him. "I want to know where you went," Spiderpaw turning his rath on Squirrelpaw. "I told you, I was ordered not to," Squirrelpaw growled. "By who, Brambleclaw; Tigerstar's son, or Firestar; your father?" Spiderpaw snapped, "Firestar; my leader." Squirrelpaw snarled, she turned to Shrewpaw for help.

He couldn't help agree with his brother, "Spiderpaw has a point. You left when you could have been a help but we can't know where you went. It sounds suspicious." He turned to Spiderpaw, "but she was ordered to tell and she can't break her promise to Firestar," He added. Spiderpaw seemed to see reason with that, "I still don't trust her." Spiderpaw lashed his tail, "it's not her you don't trust and you know it." Shrewpaw knew Spiderpaw didn't trust Brambleclaw, Spiderpaw looked at his paws. "Brambleclaw is a good cat and he is going to save you." Squirrelpaw glared at the two brothers, Shrewpaw felt a spark of jealousy when she made her way over to the dark warrior. "Everyone gather around!" Firestar called, "You all know that Squirrelpaw and Brambleclaw left the clans for a few moons and I know most of you want to know where they went."  Firestar looked pointedly at Spiderpaw and Thornclaw, "They went on a mission to a place called the Sun-down-place on orders from StarClan. We need to convince ShadowClan and RiverClan to leave the forest with ThunderClan and WindClan. It is not safe here anymore. There is very little prey, we will starve and our home is gone." Firestar told the camp.
