f r i e n d sIt's been a week since my car exploded in front of me. There's something about the only thing that was left in this place for me now gone that rattles me. Jeniffer is taking me shopping for cleaner, nicer clothes. She drives, tapping her hands on the steering wheel when a song she likes comes on the radio. "When was the last time you heard a song you liked?" She asks, giving me a friendly smile.
"Last week, in the car with Spencer. We had the radio on when he was driving me to the building site." I grin, "I can't remember what it's called but it sounded nice. To hear music again."
"I bet it did." Jeniffer parks and climbs out of the SUV, while I'm already out of the car staring at the mall in front of me. "What style is yours then? It's changed a lot, trust me. We all just want you to feel more comfortable. Penelope said it might make you feel better if there were some clothes you liked. This...what is this block type pattern?" She points to my jacket I managed to save from the car. "It's nice."
"I've had it since I was a kid. It was my grandmothers. She gave it to me and I guess it has never really fit me." I hold up my hands, covered by the rainbow sleeves. Jeniffer laughs, dragging me into the mall. "I haven't got much money, I tried to find as much as I could in my car which I stuffed in my pockets."
"Don't worry about that, let's just get you something comfortable to wear, something you'll feel good in."
We've been looking around clothing stores for about an hour and I've really gotten to know Jeniffer. She's gotten to know me, too. I've told her a lot about what I was like when I was younger and before I was abducted. I haven't brought much, I don't want to spend some strangers money. She won't tell me who's money it is, but I feel guilty spending it.
"All my friends call me JJ." She speaks up, glancing at me as we trudge out of a store with a bag each in our hands. Jeniffer spent some of this guys money too. Is it hers? "You can call me JJ, Avery. Jeniffer is usually used when I'm in trouble. Even Hotch calls me JJ" JJ - Jeniffer Jareau.
"Who's money is this?" I'm not a charity I want to say, but I don't because they've been kind to me.
"Avery, we've been in the cheapest stores because you wanted to. Don't feel bad." She smiles sincerely at me before continuing speaking, "but Spencer put some money forward for you." She says simply with a grin spread across her face.
"Spencer?" I'm beyond shocked for some reason, bodily instinct.
"Yeah, you'd think he'd stash all his money away to buy a limited edition copy of a book or something." Jeniffer laughs to herself until her smile fades.
"How long have you known the team for?" I ask. I don't expect a large number, but that's something along the lines that I get.
"I've known them since I've began. Did you know, Spencer actually is our youngest ever member. He was 23 when he joined." She pouts as she remembers the days when she first joined, a glaze forming over her eyes. "I think I have a photo of all of us." She grabs her phone from her back pocket and smiles to herself as she goes through her camera. "Oh, here."
She shows me a photo of her and the team. I can clearly recognise Derek Morgan, Penelope Garcia, Jeniffer and Spencer. "He looks so young." I say, startled. They all do, like they didn't know what they were getting themselves into with this job. They all look so innocent. "Jenif- JJ, you're all so young."
