Chapter 4
After yesterday's unexpected turn up at the coffee shop with Chase, we exchanged phone numbers. I recognized the address he was staying at just a little further away from my house.
He text me afterwards and throughout the night. It was nice to have someone so familiar to talk to again. Mia and Yuki may be the best friends and sisters that anyone could ask for, but it is different. It felt safer that I could tell Chase anything, maybe because I had known him long before them. Even though years has past, nothing major has changed since.
Chase has gotten taller and more handsome than ever, but he still was a child at heart sometimes like me. Beneath the specks of the dark brown eyes, his facade faded, and his inner personae shines.
We text until 2AM, when both of us realized we lost track of time. Our conservation never stopped, and my stomach still hurts from laughing at some funny memories.
11:21AM.
I roll over in my covers to check my phone for any notifications. 'You have got 7 new messages' flashes across the screen. I scroll down the list, and 6 of them were from Chase, and one from my mom.
I decided to open up my mom's first:
I have an away meeting today and I'm not sure when I'll be back. Money on the counter. Xx mom
Typical of my mom having last minute meetings, as I have became more accustomed to living by myself here.
With a sigh, I read Chase's messages:
good morning ril :)
are you free today?
my mom wants to meet you
Hm, sounds good since I haven't seen Mrs. Greens in so long.
we can go grab some lunch and hangout, watch movies, anything you like
text me back when you wake up ;)
don't forget to wear your smile :)
As cheesy as Chase can ever be, I couldn't help but smile on the last one. I quickly complied a reply back. It's nearly 11:30, so I quickly got ready and was on the Green's front lawn in 30 minutes.

The doorbell screeches unbelievably high the second I press it. My head throbs a bit, feeling that my eardrum may have been damaged by now. The door swings open, revealing a middle aged woman with a fair amount of resemblance with Chase.
"Hi Mrs. Green."
"Riley!" She pulls me into a surprisingly tight hug. Once she releases, I see her glistening eyes, "You've grown up so much since I last saw you. Come in, come in." She says ushering me in.
The house gleams to match the exterior of the house. A loft on the right side of the entrance filled with packed and unpacked boxes. A stair case stands in the middle straight down from upstairs, and I muse at a frustrated Chase descending down the stairs two steps at a time.
"Mom, why did you put my -" he notices my presence, and blushes a bit, "sorry about that."
"No worries," I reply.
Mrs. Green scoots to the kitchen, where I am intrigued by a strong scent of baking goods. "We can wait here till he comes."
I plot myself on a kitchen stool, admiring the newly furnished appliances in the back. I sit there awkwardly, not knowing how I should start a conservation. Yes, even though I have known her since I was a child, it feels a bit like a new start right now.
