The Selfish Girl in the Red Cape

There once lived a cunning, brave wolf who stalk the depths of the forest.

He was strong and fierce, but early one morning he twisted his leg chasing a bunny. The poor wolf spent days in his den, unable to hunt. His foot ached. His stomach growled. He was so hungry his eyes watered from the pain. Then, just when he thought he might starve, he saw something strange. In between the trees, there was a flash of red. He could barely walk, but he tried to follow the red cape. It turned out to be a girl.

She was carrying a basket with biscuits, pears, and a whole ham hock. The wolf stared at the girl with pleading eyes, but she just turned away from him. She said she was going to her grandmother's house. It was a cottage with a yellow front door.

The wolf knew the cottage with the yellow front door. And he knew a shortcut through the woods that would get him there first. So he took off on the path, wincing with each step. When he got to the cottage, a sweet old woman opened the door, and he was so hungry he gobbled her down whole After he was stuffed, he had to lie down and rest.

He put on a cozy nightgown and went to bed. When he woke up, the girl with the red cape was there. It didn't take long before he gobbled her down, too.

It wasn't his fault, was it?
He was so hungry he could barely think.
She should have just given him some of those delicious biscuits when she had the chance.
