The slytherin common room was very cold, damp and dark Lauren shivered upon entering the room whose walls were adorned with green flames and ornate looking tables and chairs. She would definitely have to see about stealing some of kais fluffy jumpers...

Laurens first impression of the place was a villains lair where plans were hatched to ruin people lives, she tried hard not to think on what she had been taught to believe, slytherin weren't all bad she was certain of that, but she could see why They might be considered evil with a common room like this...

She walked in the direction the stony faced prefect had pointed mutely before heading off to meet with his friends, ascending until she came across a door labelled first years. She pushed the door open and found all of her roommates inside, they all turned briefly as she walked in before averting their eyes, she walked to the empty bed with dark green velvety sheets starting to unpack her stuff. Silent minutes passed as all the girls continued unpacking their belongings,
Lauren couldn't bare the silence anymore "you probably all know me, I'm Lauren, potter I know you probably don't like me I'm the odd one out, The lion in the snakes den if you will, but we should try and get along I know we might not have a lot in common but beating Gryffindor sure is appealing."

A small voice in the bed opposite Lauren replied "I'm Elizabeth Acombe, I'm a half blood so I feel rather out of place right now. I do rather like the idea of winning..."

"Bianca Nott, my older brothers an idiot as well," she said a slight smirk on her face. Lauren guessed she was referring to the incident in the entrance hall.

Lauren sniggered quietly. "I would like to beat mine in something as well not that it will be hard... brothers all seem to be idiots"

"You must be in here for some reason and you seem fairly slytherin-esk. Rosetta Malcom most people call me rose though."

"You have yet to see just how slytherin I can be." It was as if a button had been pressed, as the girls all started talking animatedly as they continued unpacking the rest of their belongings. They talked about their families, what classes they were looking forward to and elaborate unrealistic plans to beat Gryffindor.

"We should bring a Niffler up in to the air so it can find the snitch like that," Rose cackled with a loud clap to underline her point.

"From what I've heard from my brother a Niffler would be a better seeker then Draco," Bianca giggled.

"Yes!!" Rose clutched her stomach with the Rolling around on her bed with the force of her laughter. "We could also flood the Gryffindor changing room with glitter ooohhh flood it with glittery water."

"Now you're talking my language!!!!!!!We can set it up as an extension of the black lake," Lauren said, scooping up a deep red jumper from her trunk and jumping up on to her bed. Launching in to an impression of professor McGonagall. "Your misdemeanours will cost you points..." reverting back to her normal voice "yes but professor we pranked Gryffindor so worth it!!!!!!!"
This made them all laugh.

As the night went on Lauren completely forgot to write a letter to her parents, she was too engrossed in having a social life, despite fearing earlier in the day her mum had ruined all chances if that.
As Lauren was settling down to sleep her mind drifted to Kai wondering how he had gotten on and that his dorm mates were as nice and as friendly as hers.

Floors above the slytherin common room the Gryffindor common room in stark contrast was full of laughter, shouting and warmth that didn't just emanate from the fire that was roaring in the fireplace. The first years were all sat in one area of the room, all except Kai who was sat with Harry and his friends, "you have to talk to them at some point Kai, why don't you just try and sit with them?" Harry had said quietly earlier that evening. In response Kai had pulled his knees to his chest, burying his face so it was between his legs and chest, he was sat in a fetal position, something he noted with a pang of loneliness Lauren would have told him off for.

he couldn't face going to join the other first years just yet eight ball had formed in the pit of his stomach tightening and crushing all the bravery he felt he had. And he still had to make it up to the dormitory and to bed before the night was over.

Their group seemed to be one of the only quiet ones; Harry was sat in stony silence brooding about what had just happened, Ron was silently busying doing last minute homework, Hermione had gone to tell some students off for their behaviour and Kai was sat trying to process what was going on.

Time seemed to pass to quickly especially for Kai as soon enough they were being told it was time to head up to bed, the first years were taken to their dormitories and then left to unpack before sleep, whilst the other boys went to their beds and started to unpack Kai stood nervously in the doorway. Slowly he walked forward assuming as two of the boys had gone to the right and one had walked straight that his bed was on the left of the room, none of the other boys noticed him tripping over the chair at the desk or walking into his bedpost with a muttered "Crap ouch." Once he opened his trunk and retrieved his pyjamas from the top of the pile he closed the trunk and went and sat on his bed hoping he could get Harry or someone to help him unpack properly tomorrow.

"Aren't you going to unpack?" Questioned someone across from Kai.

"Erm not yet." He replied quietly "I erm don't really feel like it"

"Did you not want to be in Gryffindor then?" Asked a second voice

"No, no I did, I'm just erm trying to erm process things I guess."

"I get that" replied a third voice "I only just found out I could do magic so coming here is a big shock. I'm Lucas Scott by the way, but most people call me Luke."

"I bet I have known about magic my whole life." Replied the second boy "Im William Fawley"

"My dad is a wizard, mum isn't though, I'm Orson knight"

"My parents are..." Kai faulted slightly taking a deep breath as memories of the summer flooded him he continued "both half-bloods. I'm Kyian Lupin."

"What accent is that? It sounds so...so musical sounding" Luke asked.

"My dad is welsh and I grew up in Swansea, Live there as well now so I learnt to speak welsh" Kai replied casually.

A chorus of "that's so cool" went around the room. The boys continued talking well into the night and gradually they all became more accustomed to each other and their surroundings. And The ball in the pit of Kai stomach gradually, piece by little piece, released its old.

Despite promising Remus he would send a letter as soon as possible Kai didn't write a letter or contact him with the mirror that night, after all writing a letter was the least of his worries.
