Chills ran down Enola's spine, her breath caught, face running with a blush at the boys words. "What?" She asked breathlessly, searching is face while his eyelids drooped and the smallest smile appared over his face.
"I told you, I truly adore you."

She rolled her eyes, "Whatever, idiot."
Tewksbury always asks her "want to know a secret?" to get Enola worked up, but then it's always just him kissing her ass to try and get her to make them grilled cheese after. But, why, why was this time dfferent?

He spoke, so softly, his face so close to hers, under the tree. She could only think about, him. The way under the cracks in the tree, made the sunlight shine down on him. The feeling of dirt underneath her palms. The birds chirping filling her ears.

Her eyes glimmered, chest tightening.

Was it okay to feel such ways? For someone you've known so long?

She was falling, whether it was in love, or an endless abyss. Is what she did not know.

God, the way his lips lift up when he smirks. The way his smile grows as he giggles, smling and laughing when she made him laugh.

Could anyone else make him laugh like that? Or was it just her?

"Okay, I'm sorry for tricking you again." He laughed, brushing off his knees and standing back up.

She grumbled, looking up to him with his hand stuck out for her to take.

She grinned, a small scowl lingered, she grabbed his hand as he pulled her up.

When doing so he bent down, picking her up by the legs and throwing her over his shoulder.

He began to run.

"Oh my- Tewksbury, you absoloute moron! Put me down!" Enola yelled, propping herself up, hands gripping the boys shoulder as he laughed.

"Stop laughing! Drop me!-"

Enola yelled as she fell, grass hitting her back with a thump. He stood over her, the sunlight making it so he was shadowed and the light radiated offf him. Grin plstered, floppy hair.

She simply watched.

"Remember that promise we made when we were in year three?" She muttered, he still towered over her as she lie on the grass.

"You said, if we both weren't dating by 17, we would be boyfriend and girlfriend so we wouldn't be lonely." She cuchled, her nodded, laughing along with the memory.

"You said I'd have to fill my treehouse with at least a dozen roses to ask you out." He laughed, still watching her.

She placed her hands on her stomach, tilting her head, "I have high standards!"

And in that moment, just two best friends, laughed in a field. Talking about silly promises made in the third grade. The beauty of simplism is something else sometimes.
