"What's wrong?" I ask Troy who weirdly stares at something behind me when I close my locker.
"Nothing," Ben quickly says, grabbing my shoulders when I'm about to turn around. Okay? I've seen them acting strange around me a lot of times in the meantime, but this is suspicious, boyish behavior.
They keep staring and suddenly Troy's confusion turns into visible anger. He holds his warning glare and I really want to know what they are looking at, but Ben hasn't let go of my shoulders yet.
"Would you let me go already?" frustrated, I shove Newbies hands off of me and quickly turn around.
"What the," I quietly say as I watch the two people making out against the lockers. Her hands in his dirty blonde hair and her small body pressed against his.
"Is she really that stupid?" my voice is a soft whisper but when I watch her pull away and run a finger over his lips to remove the smeared pink lipstick, I snap back to reality.
"Is she suicidal?" I whisper-yell and turn back around to my two friends.
"Snoopy," Troy's voice is laced with concern.
"Shirley knows exactly what he did to me! She's seen it with her own eyes! She's crazy if she thinks it'll be different with her!"
"Emy! It's not your problem."
"Jason, he, what the fuck. Shirley is stupid, absolutely stupid," I stutter, not believing what I just witnessed. Ben clears his throat, making both of us look at him.
"They are grinning at us and are on their way over to us," he mumbles and my shoulders stiffen.
"Hello druggie," that voice, that one voice you can hear and recognize miles away, appears right behind me. With a fat fake smile on my face, I turn to them and meet Shirley's greyish blue eyes.
"Morning," I reply and watch her entangle fingers with Jason.
"Hope you're not mad at me for stealing your boy," she smiles and bats her lashes at me.
"Oh of course not. Why would I be? I never even thought about getting back together with him. I'm glad I lost that chance to you," I spit sweetly.
Shirley's eyes wander behind me, meeting Ben's and Peanut's eyes with a mischievous smile on her face. Oh no.
"Right, Emily," her eyes meet mine again, "how's your boyfriend doing?"
There it is. She just poured the entire bottle fire accelerator in the already open fire. I don't let her see the surprise on my face, nor my tension towards what she just said. She might be stupid, but she's not blind. Cole might have picked me up from school a lot lately. But the one thing that makes this whole, kiss him to prove them wrong thing suspicious, that nobody has seen us kiss since the day we did. Nobody needs to know that I not only was about to kiss him in his kitchen, but actually made out with him and we slept in the same bed hours later.
"He's great. We had such a fun weekend, you know?"
She raises an eyebrow and looks to my surprise, surprised. See bitch, you still know how to lie.
"Really? What were you up to?"
"Oh, nothing special. First we went to the beach together, then we went to his place and I stayed the night."
Both look at me in pure shock. Well, maybe I should become an actress. But then I also realize what I have just done. I haven't told Troy and Ben about it yet. The only one who knows about it is Tucker. Sure, the other two came minutes after we - involuntarily - told my brother, but we didn't lose a word about it, since Ben came because of his father. My facade falls and my eyes go wide, which brings a satisfied smile on Shirley's face.
