Broken Hearted Girl

He pulled over beside her office, her face still holding that sombre expression that he wanted to set her free from. The last two weeks had been routine, Yash waking Ishita up in the morning then taking her to work, her not saying a word to him. They spent the morning in silence. The most they ever spoke to each other was when one of them would make tea and then a simple "Tea?" would be uttered.

Once Yash pulled over beside her office, she would get out quickly and quietly, and walk inside without glancing back. She used to say "thanks" but now even that was too routine for them. Today, as she opened the door, she smiled at him - it was an improvement, albeit a forced one.

Yash smiled warmly back at her, because he knew that he would always be there for her, whether she needed him or not. She closed the door behind her and Yash drove to his own office. Once work was over, he would drive to her office and pick her up, and they would drive back to his house in silence.

At his house he would leave her alone, he would sometimes ask her to watch a movie with him and she would reluctantly agree. There would be a huge gap between them on the couch as the movie played. He would watch her as her eyes looked into the screen, seeing it, but not watching it. He put on a horror movie once and she didn't even flinch. He would usually order dinner from outside or he would make her something to eat, which she would eat silently and then go to sleep on his bed while he slept on the couch.

Today was a little bit different - today after work, when Yash asked her if she wanted to watch a movie she said yes with a smile. Yash could see through the smile, but he was glad that she was trying.

"What do you want to watch?" he asked.

"Anything."

That was her usual response.

"How about this?" she asked, picking up Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam from the pile.

Yash raised an eyebrow, glad that she was starting to make suggestions. He nodded and put the movie in. This time she sat right beside him. As Salman Khan came on screen, he noticed Ishita's eyes fill up with tears. Yash put the movie on pause.

"We don't have to watch this Ishita," he said.

She wiped her tears from her eyes and smiled at him. "I - I'm not crying because of the movie Yash. I'm crying because I'm touched. You don't know how much you've done for me."

She placed her head on his shoulder. Yash wrapped his arm around her shoulder and stroked her hair comfortingly.

"Yash," she whispered. "Can you kiss me?"
