Here's to the Heartbreakers

He pulled her onto the dance floor, her body as rigid as stone. He held her waist with one of his hands, her hand in another before pulling her close. She turned around to look at Dilip, but Yash pulled her towards him, her body hitting his.

She looked into his eyes with her own pained ones and he immediately felt bad for what he was doing, but this was the only way he would get a strong reaction from her.

He leaned in close to her ear. "Let's kiss Ishita," he whispered in a flirty tone. "You wanted to kiss me the other day right. I'm feeling up to it, let's do it."

He felt Ishita give him a hard push backwards as tears fell from her eyes. All eyes were on them. Yash knew that he was going to be publicly humiliated, but he welcomed that with open arms. If it would improve Ishita's condition, he would welcome anything and everything. His mind drifted to the times she would humiliate him in college. On his birthday, she threw a "pink" birthday party. She tripped him in front of the whole school too once. Yash nearly chuckled at the memories, but he kept an offended mask for the sake of bringing her back.

"How dare you?" she yelled through tears. "Just because I haven't said anything doesn't mean you can do anything Yash. I hate you!"

Dilip let go of Vandana's hand and bolted towards them.

"What did you do to her?" he yelled at Yash.

Yash glared at Dilip, feeling deeply irritated by his concern. "Why do you care? You left her. Mind your own business."

"I left her because I realized what was between us was not love, there was no spark, no chemistry! We were best friends though Yash, we still cared about each other a lot and I still care about her now too!"

"Please, care?" Yash yelled angrily. "Do you see her condition? This is care? You snatched everything from her Dilip, you snatched her independence. Just stay away from her."

When Yash turned around next, Ishita was nowhere to be seen.

"Ishita?" he called out, his heart beating erratically with fear. "Where is she?"

He spotted her by the bar, downing a shot of vodka.

Sprinting towards her, he grabbed her arm. "You silly girl, drinking won't solve your problems," he yelled. "Get up!"

She stumbled as she stood up.

"How much did she drink?" he asked the bartender.

"Not much sir, just three shots."

"That's too much for her."

"Yaaaash," she said, her speech slurring. "You control freak, you MCP! I hate youuu!"

Yash nearly smiled. At least her feelings were developing in her subconscious mind and came out through her inebriated state. It was better than nothing.

Placing money on the counter for the bartender, Yash grabbed her hand and started to take her outside, but she stopped him.

"No, no, no, no!" she pulled her hand off his and stumbled towards Dilip. She nearly fell on the way there, but Yash grabbed her arm to hold her upright.

"Dilip," she said, once she reached him, grabbing his collar. "I love you Dilip, I love youuu! Please come back to mee."

"Ishita, you don't know what you're saying, you're drunk!" Dilip said, grabbing her hands and pushing them off him.

"You promised we'd be together forever Dilip, how can you break that promise?" she cried.

Yash held on to her shoulders from behind her, not intervening. She needed to get this out. He wouldn't stop her today.

"I need you Dilip."

"Ishita, I promised I'd be with you forever, and I am with you forever, as your friend. Anytime you need me, I will be here. But Ishita you can't stay with me. Look at what being with me has done to you. I'm not right for you," he told her softly. "Look at what I turned you into."

One thing - probably the first and last thing - that came out of Dilip's mouth that Yash felt himself agreeing with.

"Fine Dilip," she said through frustrated tears. "You don't deserve me either. I wasted time on you. You moved on easily, but I couldn't. I'm not wasting anymore time now, I'm moving on too. I don't need you to smile."

Ishita turned around and pressed her face into Yash's chest and cried. He wrapped his arms around Ishita, shot Dilip one last look of disdain, and took her home.
