Let Her Go
"Yash, I'm leaving," Ishita said later that day, entering his bedroom. She was holding on to the sleeve of her shirt nervously.
Yash closed the screen of the laptop that he had just been on and glanced at her. Maybe it was time to let her go.
"You aren't afraid of me telling your brother?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.
She shook her head. "Do whatever you like Yash. But I can't stay here with you anymore. There's no way."
Yash nodded. "Alright then," he said, "Go ahead. I won't stop you."
Ishita stood there in front of him frozen for a moment, as if she was surprised by how easily he decided to let her go. When she was walking out of his room, she froze by the door momentarily and glanced back, before leaving his room completely.
She was already better, the purpose he had wanted her at his house for had been fulfilled. If she wanted to go, he wouldn't stop her now. She was moving on from Dilip, her independence was back, and she could take care of herself. What more could he ask for?
But still, that night as he watched her leave his house with her belongings through the window, he couldn't help but feel his heart sink. He wanted to call her back, he wanted to ask her to stay with him, but he didn't. He didn't ask her to stay back.
He kept quiet again. And perhaps that was the reason that he almost lost Ishita. Again.
