Veelas
Veela is a mythical, nymph-like, and semi-human creature which possesses great power, as well as beauty. Often being of the feminine gender, it is not so uncommon to find a full-blooded male Veela in the wilderness.
Veelas are often found in swamps, lakes, prairies or places near a body of water. They are widely spread throughout the magical world, with Veelas from all nationalities existing. It is important to identify, Veelas are most often found living in Europe, most notably to the East of the continent. Their magical ability is such, that sometimes their hair can be used in magic potions or wands.
Transformation
Differing from an animagus, a Veela survives in only two bodily forms*; they have the ability to transform from human form to a flying creature, most notably when angered. The winged creature could be either a beast like a Harpy or a Hippogriff (this depends on the level of magic and Veela blood they possess).
*There have been cases where a Veela, will temporarily transform in the form of a swan, a snake, a horse or even a wolf as means of disguise for protection purposes.
A Veela will not transform until it has reached the age of maturity, or when its mate is in a state of danger. There are three primary levels or stages for the transformation:
The eyes of the Veela will turn glossy obsidian, then, their fangs will emerge and their skin will turn a faint greyish colour. They will grow a pair of black wings on their back that, when extended, will reach the ground. The Veela will then grow claws and will their overall strength increases. Finally, they will completely transform into a flying creature, depending on the level of magic, in the form of a Harpy or a Hippogriff. A Veela in this stage can launch balls of fire from their claws.
There are cases though, where a Veela will not progress further than the second stage. Mainly this is due to them not being a full-blooded Veela, generally, they need to be at least three-quarter Veela. Of course, there are exceptions where half-Veelas possess enough magic to transform entirely. A quarter-Veela will not transform beyond the second stage regardless of how much magic they possess. Veela blood of less than a quarter will not go beyond the first stage of transformation.
Physical Characteristics
In human form, the eyes of the Veela will be beautiful, with the pupil slightly more dilated than humans. The obsidian eyes will manifest depending on the Veela's emotions. The most prominent being arousal and anger.
Fangs for a Veela are imperative; they are useful for them for self-defence, as well as a necessity to mark their mate and bond with them. A Veela will not develop their fangs until they've reached the age of maturity.
Although Veelas can eat human food, they need to drink blood at least once every ten weeks. If a Veela has found its mate, it doesn't represent a threat to others because they will feed on their mate only (it has been proved that it is beneficial for both of them). If a Veela hasn't found its mate, it can become very dangerous; there have been numerous cases of wizards being killed by a Veela driven by bloodlust. It is noted, animal blood will suffice, but Veelas who live in the wilderness are more prone to drink human blood. Veela venom can be fatal for anyone besides their mate*. In most cases, a person who has been bitten will die within two weeks. Even though there is no cure, there have been cases of wizards and witches surviving a Veela bite although they were consequently transformed full-blooded Veelas. Some scent-altering charms repel Veelas from attacking humans, as in most cases they are attracted to sweet odours.
