Severus didn't mean for this to happen. He couldn't let his guard down, even less with his godson in his presence. He knew Draco and Granger were good friends before, but he didn't count on them being more. He couldn't avoid the dark feelings the Veela magic would make him feel about it. He felt his blood boil with anger at the mere thought of them being together. And I thought after the disgusting event that happened earlier- Severus had to stop and count to ten before his temper got the better of him remembering the reason of her being admitted into the Infirmary. - Finally, Hermione would have second thoughts about dating silly boys her age. I guess not. He made a mental note to make Weasley's life a living hell after he dared to hurt his mate. After he found out she was his mate, he began to invariably carry vials of strong calming draught for himself, requiring their effect when he would see Hermione with Weasley. His Veela blood prevented the draught from taking full effect on him, so he found he had to double or triple the dose each time he felt his emotions begin to overpower him. Today, however, after he saw her in the Infirmary, he had to take seven vials and put on his pendant to at least get out of there without the furniture, or anyone besides her, getting severely damaged.

After delivering a student whose face had turned pink from an accident in his last class to the Infirmary, he could not only smell her but also felt she was in danger. His senses sharpened, he could feel his fangs growing, and he ignored the fact his eyes would most probably be bright obsidian by now. Thank the Gods the Infirmary is almost empty he thought. He could hear his godson rambling on to Poppy as he approached his mate with the intention of not being seen.

"I swear I will kill that bastard!" Malfoy bellowed at the nurse.

"Mr Malfoy, please calm down and stop yelling, it'll fix nothing. From what you have explained, it sounds like it was a mere accident caused by a misunderstanding."

"An accident?! I wouldn't say the weasel threw a punch by "accident". Every witness there could affirm that he looked very much like he wanted to get physical, and violently so. I can't believe he was that stupid that he attempted Muggle fighting." Weasley had punched her? How could he?! How DARE he?! Severus was prepared to jump in and scare everyone away to heal his mate privately until his rational self mentally slapped him and thought to drink his calming draughts. Fuck! He had already taken three today, and he wasn't feeling any calmer. He began searching for more as his heightened hearing tuned into their conversation.

"Mr Malfoy, I assure you this mishap could have been avoided if you hadn't provoked Mr Weasley. I assume the strike wasn't directed at her, am I correct?" After a long moment without words, it was clear Ron had meant to punch Draco instead of Hermione. Like the Gryffindor she is, she probably thought she could've avoided the fight without magic. Severus shook his head at her reckless attempt at stopping it. She might be a war hero, but she lacks common sense in trying to stop a petty fight. Even more so, when the fight was between a Gryffindor and a Slytherin. Even though the war was over and the blood supremacy prejudices had been tempered within Slytherin house, there was still an evident rivalry between Gryffindors and Slytherins.

"I see that you agree with me, I suggest you help me attend to Miss Granger instead of sulking with a bitter expression on your face." Severus couldn't see them, but he could hear Poppy's exasperated tone.

"Yes of course Madam Pomfrey, I just... I'm ready to hex the weasel after what he did. If he ever even thinks of laying a hand on her again..." He was cut off with the sound of a moan.

"Draco, sod off," Severus smirked when he heard Hermione's voice rise quietly from where she was laid. She must have just woken up he thought.
