"Come on!" I laughed. "It's ok, you didn't know. Anyway, we have somewhere to be, don't we?" We looked at each other and then started the trek to the Tower side by side.
Breathing raggedly, we reached the top of the tower, and hurriedly rushed over to our table and opened the books that had been left the previous night. I flicked through tome after tome, looking for any form of ancient language that was like those words the dragon had spoken to me. I grabbed the piece of parchment that I had scribbled on last night, and looked at the word again.
Avonbriand, Avonbriand, Avonbriand.
What could it be?
A door slammed shut behind me and I jumped, the tome I was holding falling on the table with a thud. I rolled my eyes, and saw that we had not been the only ones who had gone on an impromptu shopping spree. He looked at me sternly, then started laughing. It was a wondrous sound, so full of mischief and joy, that it was infectious. He dropped his bag to the floor, nudging it under the table with his foot and dropping into the free chair beside mine. I looked back at my book, flicking through the pages to get back to the one I had found. And there it was, sitting onto the page before me.
It was a city that didn't even exist anymore.
And what was there for me?
