I awoke to obnoxious sound of my alarm clock going off next to my bed. I groaned and turned off the alarm. I got up from my bed and walked out of my room and to the bathroom. I turned on the shower and undressed. I hopped into the shower and let the warm water run down my skin, waking me up slightly. I washed quickly, got out, and wrapped my hair and body in towels.

I walked back to my room and pulled out some clothes. I put on some ripped skinny jeans, a yellow sweatshirt and some vans. I put on a bit of mascara and lip gloss, brushed through my wet hair and made my way downstairs.

"Oh, you're already up," Mom said while flipping pancakes.

"Pancakes?" I asked.

"First day at a new school, had to make something special," Mom said, scooping the pancakes onto a plate.

"Thanks mom," I said, sitting down at the table and pouring some syrup on my pancakes.

"No problem. You need to buy lunch so here's a couple of bucks," Mom said, handing me a $10 bill.

"Thanks. I'm gonna head out, don't want to be late," I said, standing up from the table and grabbing my recently packed backpack from the couch.

"Have fun!" Mom yelled as I walked out the door.

"Yeah, great fun," I mumbled as I closed the door behind me.

"Shut the fuck up, Carl!" I looked over to the house across the street and saw the boy from last night walking next to a red headed girl.

As soon as I stepped foot on the sidewalk, almost as if on queue, the boy looked across the street and at me.

"God damnit," I muttered, speeding up.

"Where you going?" the boy asked, walking across the street.

The redhead looked at him and then looked past him and at me.

"Oh, hey! Are you the one that moved in next door?" she asked, following the boy over to me.

"Uh, yeah, that's me," I said, stopping and letting them catch up to me.

"I'm Debbie," the redhead said, pulling me into a hug.

I could tell this girl would make a good friend. She was really friendly.

"I'm Karina," I said, smiling.

"Carl," the boy said, sticking out his hand.

I went to shake his hand but instead he pulled me into a hug as well, slipping one of his hands down to my ass.

"Little too close there," I said, pushing his arms away.

"Yeah, back off you perv," Debbie said, linking arms with me and starting to walk.

"Just introducing myself," Carl said, throwing his hands up.

It didn't take long for us to get to the school. There were metal detectors at the front entrances to prevent who knows what. Carl had split up from us to go find someone called Nick.

"Jesus Christ, is this what school in America is like?" I asked, raising my eyebrows.

"Yeah I guess so. Canada a lot different?" Debbie asked.

"You could say that," I muttered.

Debbie and I walked through the metal detectors, my earrings making it go off.

"It's my earrings," I told one of the men standing before me.

"Go ahead," the man said, motioning for me to go inside.
