3 The Detention

The rest of the day went by slowly, nothing else happened and Draco never showed up to the classes I had with the Slytherins. So my last class had just ended and I need to go to detention. I enter Umbridge her office and blink a few times. The room is overwhelmingly pink and everywhere are cats. I see Umbridge sitting behind her desk with a teacup in her hand. When she puts her teacup down I can see that even her tea is pink.

'Please, sit down,' she says. The evil smile is again plastered on her face. I take a seat on the other side of her desk in the wooden chair covered in pink cushions. 'You can start writing lines with this self-inking quill.' And she hands me a quill and a piece op parchment.

'What should I write Professor?' I ask her.

"What about 'Decent people are not late'?" She chuckles. 'Until you get the message.' She turns to the work on her desk and I start to write the line. After I am done writing the first one I feel something itching on the top of my left hand. I lay down my quill that was in my right hand and scratch the top of my hand. This doesn't help and I continue writing the lines. After the second and third line the itchy feeling on my hand transforms into a burning sensation. I look at my hand and see the skin is getting irritated and red. I shoot Umbridge a confused look, but she just smiles at me. When I start my fourth line a twinge of pain shoots from my hand through my arm, I gasp and drop the quill. When I look at my left hand the word 'Decent' is being engraved in my skin. 'Is there something wrong dear?' I hear Umbridge say. She is smiling widely while looking at me like she actually meant the question, even though she definitely knows what is wrong.

'No Professor, nothing is wrong,' I answer.

'That is right, because deep down you know you deserve this. You know you are just like your father. You know you are just like him, not a decent person,' she says with fire burning in her eyes, but still smiling. She was furious, at me, at my dad. My dad, was that why she got so cold when I told her my last name? I continue to write my lines and by the time I am at my eight line the whole sentence is written in the skin of my hand.

'You may go now,' Umbridge tells me after a while. I have finished about a hundred lines now and the wound in my hand became awfully deep. When I stand up I feel very lightheaded and dizzy. I look at the clock and see dinner just started and so I cover my arm with the sleeve of my cloak, leave the office and walk to the Great Hall. When I arrive at the entrance of the Great Hall I immediately look for Draco, but when I finally see him silently eating without an expression on his face, I bump into a smaller someone. I take a few steps backwards and I see a first year looking at me with a horrifying look on their face. I notice that the boy is looking at my left arm. When I look at my left arm is see that the sleeve of my cloak is soaked in blood and small droplets of blood are falling on the floor. I follow the splashes of blood on the ground and I see that I have left a whole trail of small droplets of blood.

'She is bleeding!' I hear a familiar voice scream from the Great Hall. I turn back around towards the Great Hall and see Evie standing in the middle of the Great Hall, but the movement of turning around was too fast and my vision becomes blurry and I start seeing black dots. I close my eyes to refocus, but suddenly it my eyelids are heavy and impossible to open again. I feel my body collapsing at the ground and I expect to feel pain, but instead, I black out.

I wake up with a pounding headache. When I look around I see that I am in the hospital wing and Scarlett, Evie and Cedric standing on the end of my bed. My left hand is covered in a bandage.

'Mrs. Pomfrey, she has awoken,' Scarlett says when they see me opening my eyes. Mrs. Pomfrey walks over to my bed with a bottle.

'Good. Now you kids leave she needs to rest. You, drink this it will make your headache more bearable,' she says when she arrives at my bed and hands me the bottle. Scarlett and Cedric leave, but Evie rushes over to me and makes her way to my ear.

'Just so you know, Cedric carried you all the way here,' she whispers and rushes back to Scarlett and Cedric and before they are out of sight she gives me a small wink. I blush slightly and drink the bottle Mrs. Pomfrey gave me.

'You need to stay here over night, you lost a lot of blood. Tomorrow morning you can leave and follow your lessons again,' she tells me when I finish the potion. 'I also tried to heal the wound as good as possible, but it was really deep and the magic used to make it was rather dark, so in order to heal properly, it must heal on its own.' And she gives me an apologetic look. I move my fingers a little and I flinch at the pain. Then I remember, quidditch try outs. The try outs are this Friday.

'Will it heal before Friday? I really want to try out for the team,' I say. I see Mrs. Pomfrey think for a moment.

'No, I don't think it will heal in time and playing quidditch is a bad idea,' she says after a while. Cedric had looked so happy when I told him I was going to try out and now stupid Umbitch had to ruin it. 'I think you should get some rest, try to get some sleep.' Mrs. Pomfrey walks away and I was left alone. Then I remembered Draco and how I saw him before I fainted. He was eating silently and away from his friends. This was weird, because he usually bullies other children or flirts with as many girls as possible. His pale skin got a grey undertone and the circles under his eyes got darker like he didn't get any sleep. This makes me feel guilty, last night I chose to ignore his problem, something he probably didn't get to do and besides that I still hadn't done anything to help him, I didn't even talk to him. Suddenly a tired feeling washes over me and I can't help but fall asleep.

-

When I wake up I see that it is morning, so that means I can leave. I thank Mrs. Pomfrey for helping me and I leave the hospital wing. The halls are empty because it is still early. I decide to go to my dorm to clean myself up and meet Evie and Scarlett there to tell them everything that happened. My arm was in the sling Mrs. Pomfrey had given me and felt a lot better. On my way to the Hufflepuff common room I see a flash of a green robe and blonde hair. Draco. Change of plan, follow Draco. I rushed in the direction I saw him walk and follow the sound of footsteps on the tiles on the floor. After a while I notice we are walking the same route as yesterday and when I turn around the corner where Draco disappeared the last time, he was again no were to be seen. I give up after a few minutes of looking around thinking maybe he was hiding because he noticed me, so I walk back to Hufflepuff common room. I walk through the common room to the girl dorms. I find Scarlett and Evie still sleeping, so I walk over to the bathroom and clean myself up and change into new clothes. When I come out of the bathroom Scarlett is awake and when she sees me she wakes Evie up. She sits beside Evie and tell me to join them.

'So what happened last night?' Evie asks still half asleep and Scarlett looks at me curious, but also slightly worried. I tell them everything about my detention with Umbridge and when I am finished they look at me with mixed emotions on their face.

'Anyway, tell me about what happened after I fainted,' I say, I hate it when people look at me with faces full of empathy. And changing the subject worked, because I see Evie getting exited.

'You'll never guess. Everyone looked at you, but Cedric immediately ran over to you and carried you to the infirmary,' she says 'I- Correction, we think he likes you. Besides the fact you were passed out you guys looked cute together. Oh my... This is amazing!' When Evie gets excited about something she talks non-stop.

'We should get dressed though breakfast is in five minutes,' Scarlett says and the disappear into the bathroom. After a while they come out and we walk to the Great Hall for breakfast. We join Cedric and his friends.

'How are you feeling Rose?' Cedric asks when I sit down. He looks at my arm and then back at me.

'I feel fine, my arm still hurt a little though. Thanks for asking Ced,' I answer him with a smile and start eating.

'Ced huh? I like it,' Cedric says while smirking at me.

'Oh don't flatter yourself Diggory,' I joke and we laugh. But all I can think about is how I am going to tell him I can't try out for the quidditch team.
