I see headlights of a truck coming up the street, and they pull into the driveway. I feel relief flood over me, and walk speedily to get in. As I walk towards the truck I throw the note from Kyle onto the ground.
"Thank you so much, Kyle," I say, "I appreciate the help, even though we barely know eachother."
"My pleasure, really. It would be great to get to know you better," he says, "Ever since the party I've really wanted to properly get to know you."
I smile, the compliment causing my cheeks to become pink, but in the dark light I'm thankful that he can't see.
"Why thank you, I guess I could say the same for you also," I say, "I've never seen you around, how long have you lived here?"
He cruises slowly down the road, one hand on the steering wheel and the other holding a cigarette out the window, his blonde hair shuffles slightly as the wind rushes into the car, "I recently lived down South, but because of my parents, I was offered a job here which paid very well and allowed me to live on my own. So just like that, they sent me away."
My eyebrows rise in interest, "Where do you work?"
"I actually work for a large chain of restaurants, mainly shipping supplies and goods to and from different locations, stuff like that."
"But why do you get paid so well? Truck drivers can't possibly get paid that much."
His tone shifts slightly as he talks, almost to a subtle or lighter tone, "There's great amounts of money on the line. The things that I distribute are specially imported here from various countries, so when I get them I have to make sure they're where they're supposed to go and I have to get them there at a specific time. I'm the best for the job. I'm accountable for everything."
Impressive, I think to myself.
"Wow," I say in a surprised tone, "You must be pretty important."
He smirks, looking at me, "I suppose you could assume that, I'd have to bring you along sometime."
"Really?" I ask. He nods, pulling into my driveway.
"I'll give you a call tomorrow and let you know about the details, it was nice driving you home."
"Thank you, I appreciate it," I tell him as I get out of the truck. Wait, I didn't even tell him my address, or did I? I don't know I was too busy talking to him that I didn't notice. I wave to him as he pulls out of the driveway, and make my way up to my front door quietly entering to make sure I don't wake my parents up.
...
I sit in my bathroom feeling the heat soon warm up the room. I couldn't be any more happier to finally shower, the only thing that seems to relax me. I hop in quickly, letting the warm water rush over my body and soothe my aches.
I'm happy about deciding to leave Jack, but now I can't take any of it back. I suppose this can be a new time to restart things now that I pushed him out of my life after I thought things were getting better.
I think I hear the doorbell ring, and wait a minute before I answer. I could've been wrong, but I hear it again. Hopping out of the shower, I grab a towel and quickly run to the door.
"Cassidy, what are you doing here?" I ask, surprised that she showed up so randomly.
"My parents kicked me out," she cries, "they don't want anything to do with me after the whole party disaster."
"Come in, I'm just getting done showering," I tell her, welcoming her into the house, "I'll be in my room soon."
"Okay, thank you so much." She seems very desperate, I'm sure many people have rejected her before she came to me.
We run back up to my room, and I finish my shower quickly. I brush my hair out, freeing it of tangles. I also brush my teeth, and wash my face.
I walk to my room noticing Cassidy laying on my bed texting somebody. She's smiling, so I'm assuming it's some guy she met at her party, but I decide not to question it because this isn't news to me. I quickly throw on some comfortable clothes, throwing my towel into my hamper. I grab my phone from my nightstand and sit in my bed with Cassidy.
"How long do you plan on staying here?" I ask out of curiosity.
"Not sure," she shrugs. She's very distracted by her phone and isn't talking much. I decide to leave her be.
Cassidy's POV
I guess I would have to tell Emma sooner or later. I've been crushing on her now ex-boyfriend for as long as I can remember.
Jack- When are you going to tell her?
To Jack- I don't know, it has to be soon though or else she'll hate me forever
Jack- yeah, idk, you'll figure it out right? I think she finally had enough of me tonight after she freaked out on me.
To Jack- Of course!
I set my phone down, and look over at Emma, she's so sensitive and I could possibly lose my best friend if I tell her this. I decide to put it off for now and act normal, talking like I always do.
"So Emma, tell me," I turn to face her, "what's been going on?"
She holds out her finger to me, since she's on the phone.
"Hey I'll call you later, I gotta go," I hear her say, and she put her phone down, "What? Sorry, I was talking to someone."
"I was wondering what you've been up to," I ask, smiling. She looks up in thought, thinking of what she should say.
"Well," she starts, "I ended things with Jack, I've had enough of his games. I deserve better, someone who fixes my problems and doesn't cause them."
A tinge of guilt and regret washes through me. I try my best to hide it.
"Yeah that's understandable."
"I met this guy named Kyle though, at the party. He's super nice and is actually really cute." She takes her phone out and shows me a picture, "Him."
"Ohh I see," I smirk, "your new lover."
"Oh my god, shut up," she laughs. She gets up and walks out of the room, must be going to get food.
Emma's POV
I walk downstairs past the kitchen, and to my parents room. They're sound asleep, so there's no harm in letting a few people come over. I run back up to my room and see Cassidy there, on her phone again.
To Kyle and Kade- You can come now, don't knock when you're here. Just text me
I set my phone down eagerly awaiting their arrival.
