Chapter 21

"You... were really good with him. I've never seen him this calm before. " Rysand tried to lighten the mood while I descended down the stairs again.

"I'm glad I could help." I replied grabbing my purse from the table.

"You're leaving? Already?"

"Yes . It's nearly 2am , I have an early shift tommorow morning. Was... there something else you needed?" I asked a little more caring as I watched him scratch the back of his head nervously.

"Some company would've been nice. " he said sheepishly as I tried my best not to scoff at his suggestion.

"You have a palace full of people who would love to take 5 minutes from whatever they're doing to talk to you. I'm sure you'll survive." I joked making my way towards the door as he kept his hand on the doorknob , keeping me from leaving.

"But I want YOU Avalon, don't you get it ?" He said more softly as his eyes gazed deeply into mine.

"You're just tired Rysand. Don't say anything you'll regret in the morning. " I said level headed as I removed his hand and walked out into the cold night air leaving him gaping behind.

We had too much history , and I had too much to say about it to just follow his every command like a love sick puppy.

Clasping my coat tighter around my body I come to a stop as I tried to adjust to the icy winds blowing against my small frame when I heard him say ; "I love you dammit ! " making me turn around slowly.

"What?"

"I'm... hopelessly inlove with you Avalon." He said softly as he approached me slowly.

"I... should go." I said flustered as I took off towards any direction that would get me as far from him as possible the quickest .

"Don't you get it !?" He called behind me, but I didn't dare to slow my pace. "It's you ! It's always been you since day one !" He tried again and even though the second time I so badly wanted to turn around , I knew that if I did it would be worse.

"Don't do this Avalon, please!" He tried one last time as it was also the last straw for me , making me march right up to him again.

"Do what ? Walk away? Because if I remember correctly; you're the one who up and left after you got what you wanted while I was as good as yesterday's news. So don't you dare stand there and act like you're the victim. Cause your not. And you never will be... you'll always be just another prince who doesn't care about anyone but themself. "

"I... know you don't mean that..."

"Oh yeah ? Want a bet ? 'Cause you have no idea what you've put me through. And you never will. So ... let's just leave it as is so we can both move on with our lives." I said frustrated as I turned back around , taking a deep breath and bracing myself for the cold walk home.

"But ... I don't want to move on without you." He said barely above a whisper while I tried hard to keep my anger at bay.

"Goodnight Rysand." I said walking away and this time... he didn't call behind me. He didn't even try to catch up to me. I guess I underestimated his feelings for me... I thought that if he tried one last time I would know his intentions were pure but I guess I was wrong again. He never will , and always will be ; just another spoiled heir to the throne.

After a while of walking I couldn't keep it in any longer as I fell to my knees crying. I sobbed so loudly that at some point I was grateful that no one was around to witness such a scene. I cried about everything, everything that I left unsaid and everything I regret putting out into the open. Yet, we all seem to realize these things once it's far too late...

"I never meant to hurt you ." Lifting up my head I see Rysand stand infront of me with his car not far behind him.

"What ?" I asked through a sniffle as he extended his hand helping me to my feet.

"I think we should go talk somewhere warmer. " he suggested with a trying smile as I willingly followed him back to the car and towards the palace .

"I never realized the pain I caused after Evander's birth and I'm terribly sorry about that Avalon." He started, handing me a cup of tea.

"I guess I should've been more prepared since this was what I signed up for ." I tried to joke as it didn't help much to keep my tears at bay.

"But that doesn't make it right." He added softly , putting his hand over mine as my eyes swiftly dropped to it before meeting his gaze once again.

"I'm sorry for all the things I said out there. It's just, I'm so -"

"Disappointed in me ?"

"What ? No. I just -"

"You're disappointed that I wasn't man enough earlier to realize my true feelings for you before I caused all of this heartache. " he interjected as I just silently watched him. He was saying everything that I was too scared to admit myself ...

"Look Avalon , I was a complete imbecile to have had you slip through my fingers but , if I have learned anything through your time spent here and the brief time you were away that's; that I love you more than I cared to admit. And if you'd allow me to , I'd like to prove that to you every single day for as long as it takes. Cause to me , you're worth it all. You mean more to me than any of my possessions or titles. "

"What ... are you saying?" I asked finding my voice as I watched him move closer towards me.

"I'm saying that ; I love you Avalon Lincoln and I'm inlove with you. Would you want to marry me ?"
