"Father , I can explain ." Rysand stated as soon as he set foot out of the car while his father held his stance at the door.
"Explain what ? You were supposed to be here Rysand. What was I supposed to tell the governor of foreign affairs !?" He fumed making me flinch.
"I'll reschedule. I'll make this right , I promise." He tried to convince his father while I grew guiltier by the second.
"I'd like to see you try. " he huffed uppish .
"It's all my fault your highness. King Rysand was only trying to make me feel better. " I admitted making his burning gaze fall on me while he acknowledged me.
"And who's this ? Your latest conquest?" He asked distasteful making me scoff .
"Excuse me !?" I shrieked before clasping my hand over my mouth, remembering my place.
"No... father this is Avalon . She's... the surrogate for my baby. I told you about this, remember?"
"And I strictly remember telling you that this was a ridiculous idea of yours and that you needed to find a wife to provide you with a child , not some... urchin you picked off from the street." He spat sending a hateful glare my way as I so badly wanted to retreat back into the car.
I watched as Rysand's eyes bounced between my fearful ones and his father's repugnant eyes before he blew out a deep breath saying ; "And this is the decision I made. With all due respect father , I'm the king and sole heir of this kingdom now and I do as I see fit. I don't need a wife to be able to raise my heir and where Avalon is concerned; I can assure you she's the best person for this. Now if you will excuse me , she would like to head up to bed and I need to make a call to the governor of foreign affairs. " he said before leading me into the palace leaving his father behind gaping. I tried really hard not to break out into a laugh but then again... would it be that bad of a thing?
"I'm sorry , I didn't mean for any of this to happen." I apologized while he walked me to my room.
"Don't apologize Avalon, infact I should be the one apologizing to you for my dad's boorish behaviour. It was completely uncalled for." He said with a regretful smile while I opened my door.
"Well uh... thank you for today. I... had a lot of fun. "
"You're most welcome. I had fun too. " he admitted with a warm smile making me feel a lot better about what just happened down stairs.
"Even if it got you into trouble?" I asked with a smirk making him laugh.
"Even if it got me into trouble. If I'd have to do today over again , I wouldn't change a thing." He admitted making a smile appear on my face. "Goodnight Avalon."
"Goodnight Rysand." I said closing the door behind me with the biggest, most brightest smile imaginable.

"Well get rid of her!""I can't do that! She's carrying my child for crying out loud ! I can't just leave her on the streets." I creeped closer to the foot of the stairs hearing Rysand and his father more clearly. They've been at it since early this morning , it's gotten so bad that I couldn't bare to sleep any further. This was all my fault. I should've never kept him from his work...
"Why not? Sure sounds like the sensible thing to do ."
"Sensible? Father that's my child , and your next royal bloodline. How can you be so cold ?" I heard Rysand ask while I watch them come into my view - but not yet acknowledging my presence - as I moved back .
"Maybe I would've been a little more accepting if she was your wife. But she's not. And that's the problem son."
"You're not serious , right ?" Rysand asked as I watched his father give him a look that showed he meant every word. "And what do you want me to do about it ? Get down on one knee and ask her to marry me ? Cause that's the furthest thing from my -"
"I want you , to get rid of her . She doesn't belong here Rysand. And neither will that child. A commoner like her needs to be with other's like her , NOT carrying your future heir. Let her go and I'll help you find a good , suitable wife to provide you with as many children you would want. " his father tried to convince him while I clasped my hand over my mouth in order to not let out any abrupt comments.
"I ... can't just leave her with the baby father. She barely has enough for herself . She can't care for a baby ... " The words Rysand was saying showed me that he cared and not just for this baby's well-being, but mine too. I just wish his father was as understanding as he was...
"I'll pay her for her trouble of course. I thought that was a given. But son , I want her out. By tonight. Don't make the wrong decision again , do you hear me ?"
I watched as Rysand stuck his hands in his pockets - his head hung low - I could tell when faced with his father Rysand wasn't as strong and confident as he was any other day. I watch him slowly nod his head before his father displayed a pleased smile saying ; "I'm proud of you son." And leaving out the door he came.
I knew that no matter what, this was going to be bad for me either way. How can someone be SO entitled to think that someone else's life meant nothing compared to theirs just because they had less than them. I was completely and utterly distraught but one thing's for sure ; I've never been and never will be , a fan of king Otis.
That's it ! Kind of a crappy move on his behalf but what did you think ? Let me know in the comment section below. Thank you so much for reading. Until next time keep howling my wolves ❤🐺
