The sound of crying swirled in the cold air of a winter night in Virginia. It wasn't the sound of a baby begging for its mother to give the infant its binky and it wasn't the sound of an adult crying over something tragic either. It was the sound of a small child, eleven or twelve, crying angrily over their very little misfortune.

The child yanked on her mother's sleeve, trying to persuade her mother to walk back into the store they had just come out of. The two shouted at each other for a moment, exchanging angry words and expressing frustration.

The child had wanted a toy, one the mother was unwilling to buy and asked her daughter to put away. The child seemed unhappy about her mother's decision and threw a tantrum. Disobeying her mother's wishes.

The two finished arguing, resulting in the mother rightfully dragging the small child towards the parking lot and put her daughter into the back seat of their four-door sedan.

The trek to their home is short, ten, fifteen minutes tops. Despite being home and having a ten-minute cooldown, the small child kept on her wailing, shouting at her mother as they walked inside.

"So we have an unsub who's kidnapping and killing small female children. Why?" Prentiss asks, reclined in her chair, facing the projector.

I stare at my tablet on the table, my chin resting on my hand as I'm hunched over and focused, eyebrows furrowed.

Reid taps his fingers against the wood of the table as he shuffles through his file to the right of me, "unsubs normally rape children once they kidnap them, resulting in the unsub killing the child to keep their secret." He looks up from his file, squinting at the projector with his mouth slightly agape.

"So then why is there no evidence of rape?" Rossi questions from in between Prentiss and Morgan, leaning his elbows on the table.

Garcia adjusts her glasses as she clicks a button on her small remote, signaling for the screen to change to three pictures of the victims.

The BAU has been asked to consult on a case in a small town in Virginia called Leesburg, where three preadolescent girls have been kidnapped right from their rooms without alerting their mother and without leaving a trace, then killed and dumped into an alley. The police department Is hoping we can find who's doing this and fast, but something tells me we won't be getting through this as fast as they want...

"I don't know, but all three victims had traces of oxycodone in their system." Garcia grimaces at the thought.

Morgan scoffs next to hotch, "well there's how the unsub got them out of the house without a trace."
