Adam Joans.
The icy cold air made my lips turn blue and made me regret only wearing a thin jacket.
I was waiting for Mia, I wanted to be early, prove to her i could be more than just a drunk who never kept his promises.
Soon I could see her car pull in and she opened the window.
"Hey, Adam." She said happily, a large smile on her face. Oh my, she was she beautiful when smiled like that.
"Hi." I replied, as I got into her car.
"I was thinking we could go the park or something, but is it okay if we like swing past mine first, I need to get some cash." I nodded. Jakes plan was quickly going to be in action, shit.
"Earth to Adam." She waved her hand in front of my face, I stifled a laugh.
"Sorry." I muttered.
"What's wrong?"
"Everything."
"Adam." She said sternly and I sighed.
"I met an asshole the other day."
"Legitimately, or metaphorically?" She teased, smirking lightly. This somehow, despite the circumstances, made me laugh.
"No one would want to see his asshole, that's for sure. No, he came around and I don't know, kinda fucked up my mind and shit, like he thinks he can control me." I wished I could've told her the whole truth, honestly.
"Sounds like a dick, don't let him get to you, yeah?"
I frowned slightly.
"I'll try."
We drove on a bit in silence, although the silence wasn't awkward, it wasn't exactly free from tension either. As if she was reading my mind, she turned on the radio.
A song blared on about love and losing, or something along those lines. Mia hummed along, I liked it.
"I love this song." She commented after a while.
"What's it called?"
"ready, by Kodaline."
I found myself enjoying this type of music, I never had the money listen to music, maybe this was all the therapy I needed.
"Never let the pressure tell you you're not capable of being everything you want."
By the time the song ended, we were turning into her drive. Her house was large and beautiful, just as I had imagined. I felt small and out of place in her neighbourhood.
"It's okay, Adam." She reassured me, with a smile.
We stepped in, the house was modern and neatly decorated, everything was in the right place, it looked perfect.
"Um, I'll be back in a minute." She disappeared off into the kitchen. My heart thumped in my chest, reminding me of Jace.
"Mia," I yelled, she poked her head out from the kitchen. "Where's your bathroom."
"Oh," she smiled. "Upstairs on the right."
"Thanks." I muttered.
I walked up the stairs quickly, sure enough, to the right was the bathroom, but I didn't need it.
Walking straight past it, i carried on until I reached a large room which smelled of various perfumes. I looked in, the lack of teenage objects, told me it was Mia's mothers room.
Checking around, I went in, heart still beating quickly, I felt terrible as I went through her mother's jewellery. Right at the bottom of the draw, I found a dusty box. I opened it, to find the most beautiful necklace, but most importantly it looked expensive and forgotten about. I placed in my bag.
"Adam?" Mia called from the hallway. I panicked.
"Y-yeah, just coming."
I'm so, so fucking sorry Mia, I thought as I left the room. I just needed to protect you.
