"I wish I had a family."
Shit.
I couldn't tell what Adam was feeling, he face looked empty, just like in court yesterday.
"Family," I cleared my throat, for some reason I felt nervous around him now. "Doesn't always have to be the people you're related to."
"So what is it then, hur?" He asked, staring out the window.
"People who can make you feel like part of something, such as close friends."
"Well, my friends, only like partying, getting drunk and throwing away everything they get and are extremely unsupportive." He said, shaking his head.
"It's never too later for anything," I reminded him, as I pulled into McDonald's. "Some food will be good for you, might help you sober up."
He grunted and got out the car.

We had been sitting in MacDonald's now for over an hour now.
"Tell me about you, Mia, what's your life like?" He asked, taking a bite of his burger. I narrowed my eyes, was he being sarcastic? But even if he was, I decided to tell him the full story, ignoring some of the dark details of my past, he didn't need to know them, no one did.
"I live with my mum, after my dad and older Sister died in a car crash when I was Twelve. Um," I said, just talking about them made me feel sad, I blinked to prevent myself from crying. "I've grown up around my extended family, uncles and aunties and cousins- who are all very important to me. Since the passing of my dad and sister, I have basically been looking after my mum, keeping her strong, just trying to keep it altogether really. But, I have lots of lovely friends who help me and I have a dog, called Spot. That about sums be up." I gave a sad laugh, because there really wasn't much more about me.
I looked up and Adam was staring at me with such a deep and concentrated look, I almost blushed.
"I underestimated you," he cleared his throat. "You're one of strongest people I've met."
