Mia
I stood in front of the Mirror, in a hideous yellow dress and my hair styled tightly into a high bun. My mother had both picked out my dress, 'sunflower' yellow, for the the garden party, in which the theme was 'summer 'colours, and my hair, which was the 'pulled back look' and apparently gave everyone a really good look at my eyes.
Honestly, I felt like I was back to middle school, when my mother and I got invited to the headteacher's party. 'Smile, laugh and Stand tall.' She would tell me.
Fake.
"Mia!" I heard my mother's voice, loud, from upstairs, she sounded in pain. In panic, I ran up the stairs, heart beating fast.
She was digging through her dressing table draws, a concentrated frown on her face. I sighed.
"I thought you were hurt, mum!" I fell onto her bed, still a little out of breath. She came and sat next to and held my hand.
"I'm sorry." She whispered. You don't understand how scared you get when someone yells, until you've lost everything.
"What did you want?"
"Well, this may sound crazy, but I was looking through some old photos of your father and me, and I was wearing this necklace. I want to wear it to the party, and it's been in this drawer for years, have you taken it or something, because I can't seem to find it?"
"No, but you've haven't worn that for years, are you sure it was even in there?"
"Yeah, I'm sure." She suddenly looked very sad, her face ageing years, simply from a small grimace.
I remembered a few months after the accident, my mother was making dinner. It was something as simple as pasta and peas, I know i should have offered to cook it. I walked into the kitchen, she was mumbling to herself, while trying to carry a heavy kettle, 'do you need any help.' Not expecting to hear me, she gasped and dropped the kettle, hot water spilled across the floor, burning hers and my feet. 'Fuck, fuck, fuck.' She screamed, as she attempted to pick up The broken pieces of metal, but her hands were shaking. 'Fuck' she whispered a last time and sank down onto the floor, despite the hot water.
I remembered thinking, my older sister would've known what to do, what to say. I remembered thinking, why haven't it been me? Why didn't I die?
I sat down next to my mother and simply just placed my my hand on hers. '
I'm sorry.' She said.'Its okay, I'll make dinner, go sit down, I'm sure there's something good to watch.'
"Earth to Mia," she waved a hand in front of my face, instantly making me snap up.
"Oh, yeah." I muttered, eyes cast to the floor.
"It's just I know this necklace was in here," once again she started emptying out her dresser.
"Mum," I whispered. "Stop, it's okay."
"It was your fathers God dammed favourite." I thought she was about to cry, she bit her bottom lip.
"We'll find it, mum."
"Okay, and now," she checked the time. "Shit, we've to go to."

I had been stuck at the party for over two hours and my mother was already seriously intoxicated, dancing like a mad women and singing. It was sad because my mother was usually very classy and proper, and it was like she breaking apart again.
I knew I needed to find that necklace, or else she'll be bad again. I shuddered at the memories.
It was odd, the only person in the whole world i wanted to talk to about it, was In fact, Adam. And that kinda scared the shit outta me.
