I woke up to my mom shouting at me, "Lee Chaeyeon! Wake up!"

"Hmm? I'm awake!" I said and sat up.

"Good, now we have to get you ready, you have to meet with the matchmaking couple today!" she said and I rolled my eyes. My parents have been trying to match me with someone for a little over four years now since, apparently, I need to be married by twenty three so that "my life can actually start" 🙄. My sister, Chaeryeong, is known as "the perfect wife" in our area, unlike me who is known as the troublemaker. She was matched with Kang Taehyun ;sat year despite being so young, but they are only dating right now, at least until they are older than they'll most likely get married. I mean I'm happy for Chaeryeong because she really is happy, but that just put my parents' attention on me. Well not exactly all the attention, but most of it because of our youngest sister, Chaemin. She isn't meeting with the matchmaker couple, yet, but I honestly won't be surprised if she gets matched with someone before me.

Oh! I should probably explain how the matchmaker couple works. It's basically a couple, Mr. and Mrs. Kim, who are able to match up everyone with their "soulmate". Well, not everyone, but the people who are having trouble finding love. We can only meet with them once a year, and if they don't find us a match, we have to go back the next year. If you get matched at a fairly young age, your parents usually have you date for a few years and then have you get married when both are past twenty.

"Chaeyeon! Come down! We have to get you ready!" I heard my mom yell from downstairs.

"UGHHH!" I said and forced myself out of bed.

I got down and started stuffing my mouth with food.

"Aish, how are Mr. and Mrs. Kim supposed to find a match for you." my mom said while shaking her head in disappointment.

After breakfast, mom, grandma, Chaeryeong, and Chaemin started getting me ready.

"Ouch!" I yelled as my mom yanked my hair.

"Oh come on, it's your fourth year, I expect you to be used to this." my mom said and continued, what felt like, pulling out all my hair.

She put pins and all other kinds of stuff that I could care less about. She then put on a heavy face of makeup on me and then put me in a tight and uncomfortable dress that I couldn't really breath in.

"You look beautiful!" Grandma yelled in excitement and caressed my face.

"Alright, let's get going, we don't want to be late like last time." my mom said and we walked to Mr. and Mrs. matchmaking shop.

We got in the line and I saw my friends.

"Chaeyeon!" Sakura Unnie yelled while walking over to me with the other ten girls.

"Hi!" I said.

"Ready for another year of 'making Mrs. Kim so frustrated that her wrinkles start showing'." Eunbi Unnie said and I nodded. Us twelve haven't been matched yet because of one reason, we're smart and were educated. Not all of us went to school, but we were able to read and write and, apparently, men don't like that. Wonyoung and Yujin's parents actually started taking them to the matchmaker when they were like thirteen which is why they know us and why we're friends with them. Eunbi Unnie is actually twenty-four and still hasn't been matched which is why her parents still make her go to the matchmaking couple.

We chatted and waited in line for a while and then it was my turn.

"Mrs. Kim." I said while bowing and giving her a cheeky smile.

"So, we meet again Chaeyeon." she said.

"Probably gonna see me every year until I die." I said.

"Oh come on, try to think positively. Now, you know the drill, set up the tea table." she said and I nodded. I steeped the tea in hot water and set the table. While setting the table I asked, "Why can't I go with the boys to learn how to fight with Mr. Kim?" referring to what the boys do whenever they are matched. "You ask this every year, but I always have the same answer. Men are not attracted to women who can fend for herself. Men want a woman who can be a good housewife." Mrs. Kim said and I sighed, I mean it was worth a shot. Once the tea was fully steeped, I carefully poured it in everyone's cup.

"Huh, better than last year." Mrs. Kim said while writing in her notebook. We continued doing the usual procedures like cleaning the dishes and yada yada yada.

Mrs. Kim then did a palm reading to help her try to narrow down who I should be matched with.

She opened her eyes and said, "See you next year."

I just chuckled knowing that she was going to say that as my mom and dad sighed.

We walked out and my parents went back home. I went to Yena's house since that was where we were meeting.

"I'm here!" I shouted as I walked in.

"Let me guess, no match?" Sakura Unnie asked and I nodded.

"Of course I had no match, but did anyone get matched?" I asked as I sat next to Chaewon.

"Actually, me, Hyewon, Yena, and Chaewon got matched......" Eunbi Unnie said and I went wide eyed.

"Really?"

Eunbi Unnie, Yena, and Chaewon nodded while Hyewon just rolled her eyes.

"What's wrong Kwangbae Hyung? Shouldn't you be happy?" Yujin asked.

"I should, but I'd rather marry cake than that jerk." she said while rolling her eyes.

"He can't be that bad, plus you just met him." Yuri reasoned.

"Anyways, are we going to meet them?" Hitomi asked.

"We can prob-" before Chaewon could say something, we heard horses and yelling outside. We all rushed outside and saw the general with his army of men.

"ATTENTION! THERE ARE INVADERS TRYING TO ATTACK THE THRONE AND WE ARE ENTERING WAR! I REPEAT, THERE ARE INVADERS TRYING TO ATTACK THE THRONE AND WE ARE ENTERING WAR! EACH FAMILY HAS TO SEND AT LEAST ONE MALE WHO IS EIGHTEEN OR OLDER TO HELP FIGHT THEM SINCE WE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH GUARDS. THEY WILL SET OUT TOMORROW MORNING FOR TRAINING, SO BE PREPARED." the general yelled so that everyone could hear and started handing scrolls to each family with a list of things they need and a map to the camp. They left on their horses and families started panicking.

Oh no. We don't have any brothers, which means dad has to go, but dad is still hurt from the last war. Maybe they can let our family slide since he got shot during the last war and is still injured.

"I gotta go." how you feel itI told the girls and ran back to my house. I got there and the whole family was sitting around.
