The closet's warm, stuffy air encases me. There's a window on the side, where creamy white moonlight spills into the room. We're surrounded by a plethora of cleaning and supplies-- buckets, brooms, mops and other miscellaneous items.  It's dark, and it takes my eyes a while to adjust. Once they do, I see inky, jet black hair surrounding two bright, emerald green eyes. It's Laiken.

"Hey," he says, a wide grin spreading across his face. "I'm glad you came, Y/N."

I can't help but smile at his excitement. "Well. I'm here. Where's this place you were talking about?"

He looks outside, a look of nostalgia gracing his features. "It's past the gates, in the city. Are you prepared?"

I nod. "Yes, I am."

He turns to the window, then pulls the hatch, opening the window.  A warm breeze seeps into the room.

He climbs out first, stepping on what seems to be a ledge outside, facing the east side of the castle. Then, he turns back to me, holding out his hand for me to grab.

"I've got you," he says, the biggest smile on his face.

Reluctantly, I step out onto the ledge. It's made of red, rough gravelly stones. We're about twenty feet off the ground, cool nighttime air surrounding us. I wobble a bit, and Laiken grabs my arm, stabilizing me.

"You're okay?" He asks.

I giggle, "Woah, that could've been bad. Yes, I'm okay."

He scratches the back of his head sheepishly. "Sorry we can't go out the front, they lock it up pretty tightly to prevent any unwanted visitors."

"It's okay, I expected that," I nod. "Now how do we get down from here?"

"Oh," he says, the red tinge on his cheeks still visible, even in the moonlight, "If you look down to your left, there are bricks sticking out. We can use those to step up and down. Since there's no ladder."

He moves around me, still holding onto me to make sure I don't fall.

"I'll go first," he says, before letting go of my arm to climb down.

I peek over the ledge as he climbs down and places his foot on the first brick. There's a bush of bright pink Camellia's below that seem to glitter in the moonlight.

I feel a bit of nervousness creep up my spine. "Please be careful."

He places his foot onto the next brick, letting his hand hold onto the one he just stepped on. "I should be saying that you," He chuckles.

He continues the motion until he reaches the Camellia bushes below. He gently lands on them using his knees, obviously trying not to disturb the perfectly trimmed blossoms. Finally, he steps down onto the green grass down below, the thin plants making a ruffling sound under his shoes.

"Okay, Y/N. Are you ready?" He asks, staring up at me.

I nod, trying to mentally prepare myself for the worst. "Yes, I'm coming."

I turn around, then get on my knees, making sure my underwear isn't exposed. Then, I back up off of the ledge, using my hands to hold tightly onto the rough roofing. My foot steps on to the first brick, the rough rock allowing my foot to grip and keep balance. I bring my other foot down on the same rock, holding onto the ledge until my knuckles turn white. Then, I bring my left foot down onto the next rock. Then, the right, holding onto the rock I just stepped off of. I continue this motion until I'm a safe distance from the Camellia. I let go, and let myself drop into the soft Camellias below.

"Well, you made it!" Laiken says, smiling widely.

I let out a breath, laying in the Camellias, savoring the sweet citrus scent. Then I giggle. "Yes, I guess I did."

I sit up, and Laiken helps me onto the ground. I dust off a few small branches, and straighten out my dress. We look back at the Camellias. It's clear that something happened, as the perfectly trimmed bush is a little misshapen.

"It's okay," Laiken says. "I'll give Ollie a few bucks as an apology."

"Oh, you know the gardener?" I question.

He nods. "Yep, I know almost every single worker in this castle. I've been working here since I was fifteen."

He looks around, a nostalgic look in his eyes. Then, he snaps back into reality. He looks a little embarrassed.

"A-Anyways, we're on the east wing, so we can use the east side exit. I know the soldiers working tonight, they'll let us back in," he says, the breeze blowing his ebony locks out of his face.

I nod. We walk through the east wing garden and pond. After walking in comfortable silence for a bit, we finally reach the gates of the east side exit. Three guards stand at attention, two really tall, and one short. Laiken approaches them, with me in stride.

"Yo, Laiken! How's it going?" One of the tall men ask.

Laiken nods. "I'm doing good, Tybout. Just trying to head out for a bit with Y/N."

The other tall guard motions to me. "Oi, you're the Prince's new assistant! I've been hearing a lot of rumors about you.... Say, are you sleeping with the Prince?"

"Bardol!" Laiken says. "Those are just that, rumors."

Bardol shrugs, smiling. "My bad, gotta ask the important questions. After his last one left in a hurry, I never thought he was gonna get another one! "

The shortest guard opens the gate to let us through. "Be back before midnight!" He says, his gruff voice booming from underneath his bulky armor.

Laiken bows quickly. "Thanks Gorn!"

We walk out of the intricately designed golden gates and into the starry night, and begin the walk towards the town.

"So where are we headed?" I ask, taking in my surroundings.

The forest was vast, shadowy, and blooming. Its canopy was marked by sequoia, linden, and cedar, their crowns allowed for short beams of light to descend for bright ferns to burst from the sloping and slanting ground below. Quiet creepers dangled from a couple of trees, and a variety of flowers, which claimed quiet corners, added some bright touches to the otherwise brown and green scenery. A hodgepodge of noises, which were caused by insects, resonated through the air, and were strangely synchronized with the raging river currents clashing against boulders.

"I said it was a secret, right Y/N?" He whispers, smiling.

I roll my eyes, a small smirk forming on my lips. "Fine."

We continue in comfortable silence, and a few minutes later we reach the town.

It's bustling and full of life. The market has vendors selling everything from jewelry to berries. The sun has set, and it's pretty dark. However, lanterns are set up at every booth lighting the way for both buyers and passerby. Children run by, presumably playing some form of tag.

As we walk past a booth selling jam sponge cakes, a young boy runs up to Laiken, hugging his leg. He can't be more than six or seven years old.

"Lai! We missed you!" He says, looking up at Laiken. The boys big golden eyes look up at us. He's smiling widely.

"Marc," he says, ruffling the boys brown hair. "I missed you too! Where's momma?"

The boy points to a booth a few feet down.

We begin walking.

"Is that your brother?" I ask, watching the little boy run to the booth.

Laiken nods. "Yes. Let's keep this between us, please?"

"Oh, okay. Yes, that's fine," I nod.

Why?
