It's midnight, and we pass the two new guards guarding the back entrance of the castle. We climb up through the storage room window, into the small, stuffy room, and lock the window behind us.
I sit on the windowsill for a moment, catching my breath as I feel a smile creep up onto my face.
Laiken raises a brow, a slight smirk forming, "What?"
I jump up and wrap my arms around his lanky figure, and soon enough he does the same, reaching down to wrap me in a hug. He's slightly damp, his white tunic sticking to his arms and chest, and his wet black hair almost shines in the moonlight.
"Thank you," I speak quietly and slowly, "for everything. I had a really great time tonight."
We disconnect, and he nods sheepishly, a slight pink tinge gracing his features. "Of course. I had a great time tonight as well. That bracelet looks stunning on you."
I look down at the bracelet and remember everything Marianne, or should I say Starlight, told me. It fills me with dread, knowing I'd have to face the violent Prince Victor. What more are they hiding? Who is Lucas? And what did that phrase mean?
"Did I say something wrong? You look... troubled," Laiken says, a look of concern evident on his face.
"Oh, nothing. Just wondering what I am going to wear this with," I chuckle inwardly, staring down at the unique piece.
Laiken and I stand in silence for a moment as the smell of cleaning products and stale papyrus fills my lungs. I glance upwards at him and our eyes meet. His eyes glimmer in the moonlight, and I get lost in the green seas of his irises. They're the deepest shade of jade, and sparkle like a perfectly polished emerald stone kept on display. They're a lake of green tea, the thick syrupy bittersweetness holding me steady. The distance slowly closes in between us; before I even realize it, our lips are touching. His scent enters my nose, sandalwood, and sweat, and I find myself wanting more. More of the feeling of excitement, more of the adrenaline, more of him.
He slowly pulls away, still looking down at me with those eyes.
"I cannot say that I have not been wanting to do that for some time, Y/N," He chuckles, smirking. Despite his attempts to keep his cool, his ruby-colored cheeks are a dead giveaway.
"I can't say I didn't like it. I'd be a liar," I smile, crossing my arms.

The ending of the night continued without a bump. Laiken and I made it back to our quarters in one piece and morning came quicker than I'd have hoped.
"Good morning, Y/N!" I hear a particularly chipper Genevieve outside my room door. I groggily drag myself out of the comfy bed, throw on my satin robe, and unlock the door.
She enters, holding a cup of tea.
"Good morning, Gen. I thought it was an off day today. Y'know, an empty schedule means you can sleep in," I tease, closing the door behind her.
She nods, placing the tea on the nightstand and rushing towards the closet, her red hair bouncing wildly. "Yes! While that is true, Prince Axel requests your presence for breakfast at 8:00. It is 7:12 now and you don't want to be late!"
My heart skips a beat at the mention of the young prince's name, instantly remembering how I brushed him off at dinner yesterday evening. I tense a bit and feel my stomach sink. I could tell he was bothered.
