You and Robby had been hanging out for months now. It took him a while to open up to you, but you managed to prove he could count on you. Though he became more and more honest with you, there was always a part of him he kept locked up. He was always on guard, just not as tense when he was with you.
The usual routine was that you and him would meet up outside the school after the last class of the day, and go to the library. He showed you his favorite spot one day, and it's been a go-to ever since.
"Hey!" You waved Robby over. "Library?"
     He nodded. "Let's go."
You both walked down the sidewalk. You noticed he was avoiding all the cracks, and you absentmindedly copied him. You were trailing behind him and he stopped in the middle of the sidewalk, causing you to bump into him.
"God you're an ass." You giggled.
You got to the library after trekking up a grassy hill. The side entrance was left unlocked, as per usual. The trail to the main entrance had a separate path that led to the side, right up to the door. It was barely ever used save for book donations and the old librarian's GrubHub deliveries. The lack of regular usage caused an overgrowth of weeds and rotting crabapples from a nearby tree. Luckily, that wasn't the spot. He looked behind him to see you were still following. Making sure no one was around, you snuck in through the side and into the office. The second the coast was clear he led you into a room connected to the office. It used to be an old room where kids could read and play, but it was abandoned for a better spot years ago. No one knew you two still used it. The room was dimly lit, but with a soft and comforting glow coming from some old Christmas lights that hung over the empty bookcases. A giant stuffed bear with various ptches and patterns sat in the corner, watching over you two.
He sat down at his usual spot, a huge lime green bean bag surrounded by purple and blue pillows. Then he montioned you to sit next to him. You both pulled out unfinished books from your stash and began reading. It was your favorite part of the day. The atmosphere was always so inviting around him, even when he was at his worst. You "platonically" sat close to him, like you always had. He was reading Of Mice and Men, and you were reading Wonder. Though it was a good read, you were exhausted and kept almost dozing off. You both sat in silence for over an hour before it was broken.
"It's funny." He said, putting his book down.
"Hm?" You struggled to keep your eyes open.
"I used to come here to be alone. I never thought I'd want to share this spot with someone..."
He was looking down at your own book, unfocused. You were starting to fall asleep and rested your head on his shoulder, failing to realize you were hugging him closer while doing so. He shifted his arm under the sudden thump of your head, then leaned back so you could rest. You felt him put his arm around you and rest his head on yours as the world around you peacefully faded away.
He kissed the top of your head and whispered something close to "I'm glad I finally let you in."
Neither of you had slept that well in years.
