Chapter 17

One week later

Mick POV

It's all my fault. All my fucking fault. I lost another woman in my life all because I can't keep my goddamn hands to myself. I was high on anesthesia, but that's no excuse to treat her that way. I had been treating her like that the entire few weeks we were together. I will prove to her that I can become a better man. 

Although she wouldn't be my first marriage, she will be my last. I went to an extent to go to counseling and letting the press out it out into the world and even explained why I was going. I was hoping to get Veronica's attention and for her to let me back into her life. 

Although I had been released from the hospital a few days ago, so much hit me, and I felt like a new man. Veronica had inspired me to be better. 

I was getting out of my car for my second session of counseling. "Mick, come in and have a seat." He told me. "So, how did you feel about last week's session?" He asked. "I felt it was a good start to turning me into a better person." I replied honestly. "Good. I'mm glad you feel that way. So, you have a few major problems, which one do you want to tackle first?" The doctor asked. "I want to get my woman back." I said. "Do you have a plan to do that?" He asked. "I don't really know. I was hoping to get her attention some how." I explained.

"Believe it or not, I've been in the same situation you are. I let someone I love dearly slip out of my grasp because I was so focused on myself. I got her back by putting my needs aside, and even if you think you're doing that, are you really listening to what she needs?" He explained to me. 

"I think I know what to do now." I said. The rest of my session flew by, and I went to Veronica's mother's house, hoping she would be there. I rapidly knocked on the door. Her mother opened the door and scowled when she saw me. "What do you want?" She asked coldly. "Look, I know I screwed up and probably nothing will fix this, but can I at least talk to her?" I asked.

She hesitantly opened the door to let me in. "Veronica, baby! There's someone who wants to see you!" She called. Veronica came out of her room and glared when she saw me. I was about to speak, but she stopped me. "Let me talk first, I gave you another chance and you blew it. I don't want to be with you. I really thought you had changed." She said as she kept the same glare on her face.

"I don't expect you to come back to me. I just want you to know that I am so sorry. I know I'm a huge dick and I deserve to be alone for what I did to you, and not once but twice. I just need you to know that I love you and I always will whether you come back to me or not, but I've never really felt love towards anyone. It's a new feeling, and I didn't know how to handle it. So I just did what I always do. Drink, smoke and fuck. I didn't know how to be there for you and I know I fucked up big time. I Just wanted you to know that." I said.

"Just, just give me some time. The last time I let you back into my life just like that, it got fucked up. I did love you and I still do. But I felt like my body was all you wanted out of me. That's all I ever got from you." She said honestly. "Okay, I'll give you some time. Just let me know if you want to be with me again. It would mean a lot if you would come back to me. Just so you know, I started going to counseling for you. I want to be a better man for you." I said as I walked out the door.

I got back into my muscle car and drove home. I saw some vodka sitting on the counter and I mentally beat myself up. I decided to call the boys to hold a meeting. 

They came over and sat on the couch. "Hey man. What did you wanna talk about?" Tommy asked. "Wait, where's Veronica?" Vince asked. "She left me because I'm a cold hearted and sex driven dick. But that's not what I called you here for. I've been thinking about this a lot lately, and we all have addictions whether it's pain pills or all the way to heroine. I wanna get sober, and I was wondering if you would do it with me." I explained. "Alright guys, let's get sober." Tommy said.
