Mick POV
Veronica's hand shakily grabbed the phone and hesitantly dialed her parent's number. After the second ring, they picked up. She swallowed hard. I rested my hand at the small of her back in reassurance. I felt her relax under my touch. "Hi mom.... I'm fine, you?.... Well I have a question for you.... I was wondering if you were free sometime this weekend to um meet Mick.... I know it's a big age gap, but will you please be open minded? He's not the kind of person you think he is. He's a good guy.... Thank you mom. Is dad going to be there too?.... Okay, well give him a hug for me and tell him I love him.... Alright, Saturday afternoon works.... I love you too.... Bye mom." She hung up the phone and looked like she was going to puke.
Saturday came slowly but surely. Veronica didn't even want to get out of bed. I had to drag her out by telling her she could only have her coffee if she got up. Veronica got out of bed and came down in her robe. She wrapped her arms around my neck and buried her head in my chest.
"Are you alright?" I asked. "I'm nervous. I don't know how she'll react." Veronica explained. "Don't worry. It's all gonna be okay. Maybe I'll grow on her." I suggested lightly shrugging. "I just don't want to hurt my mom by disobeying her if she doesn't want me with you but I love you so much and I don't want to leave." She explained. "I love you too, V. Just do what you think is best." I told her.
We got ready and got into my Corvette. We went to a cafe that Veronica and her mom agreed to meet at. Her mom wasn't there yet. After about 5 minutes, She saw her. Veronica got up and gave her mom a hug. "Hi Mrs. Johston. Great to meet you." I said as I extended my hand to greet her. "Well Veronica. I guess you were right. He really is a gentleman." Her mom said.
She took a seat and asked me a few questions about myself. When she asked my age, that's when things started to go downhill. With Veronica being 26 and me being 42, who knows what she would say. I cleared my throat nervously. "I'm- I"m 42, ma'am." I said. Her pupils dialated a bit. She took a sharp inhale of breath. "That's quite a big age gap I must say." She said nervously. "Don't worry mom. Just because he's older doesn't make him any less of a man than he already is. Just please. Give him a chance to prove it to you." Veronica pleaded. "Alright. I have noticed that you are quite a nice man. But V, he's only a few years younger than your father. You know he has problems with some of their... reputations I should say." She said as she stared at me. "He's not like that. I of all people would know that. Mom, if you'll just take a second to listen how I feel about him, maybe that will make you stop and think." I said. "Alright, alright," She said.
He always makes sure I have everything I need, takes care of me when I'm feeling down, holds me when I'm sad, and always puts my feelings first as if he doesn't even matter. He's all I could ever ask for in a man." She explained. Her mom looked at me. "Is this true?" She asked me. "I'm always trying the best I can to make sure she's okay and if she needs anything she knows I'm always there for her. I like to push my priorities aside so I can help her get hers. I only do this because I love her more than anything and I would give her the world if I could." I said as I stared at her lovingly. "If you would've told me he was like this over the phone, I probably would've been more open-minded. Screw your father, I'm going to find myself a man like Mick. And I am so very sorry for underestimating you. I guess the whole rock star thing got in the way of my thinking and I just assumed the worst." She said with a smile as she placed her hand on top of mine. "Don't worry about it. Happens all the time." I said. "My daughter is so lucky to have a man like you in her life. Her father has never been one to show affection to anyone." She explained. "Well, can't imagine why." I said.
"Are you guys hungry? My treat." I offered. "That's alright, hun." She told me. "No. Let me get you something. I insist." I urged. "Alright. Who could say no to free food?" She asked. Just then, a few blondes came up to our table. "Oh my god! It's Mick Mars!" One screamed. "What are you doing tonight?" The other asked. I cringed. "Take it easy, girls. I'm not interested." I said as I grabbed Veronica's hand. "Ew. Why would you go out with someone like her when you can hang with us for the night?" They asked. I turned to her Veronica's mom. "Are you religious?" I asked quietly. "No." She said back. I faced the girls again. "I already said it once and this is the last time I'm saying it. So back the fuck off! What I'm doing is none of your buisness, so please, go annoy someone else. Oh, and you all know, by the end of the day, she's always gonna be better than you. So don't waste my fuckin' time." I said as I turned my attention back to Veronica and her mom. "I'm sorry. I just had to get them away some how." I said apologetically. "You really are commited to my Veronica aren't you?" She asked. "Yes. I've never loved anyone more." I said as I squeezed her hand.
"Alright, I'm starving so why don't we eat something?" Veronica suggested. "Sounds like a plan." I said. We ordered our food and ate. We then said our goodbyes and headed off home. We saw those girls again that bothered us at the table. I looked at them and then pulled Veronica into a deep kiss. We both slipped tongue in and made it very dramatic to make the girls jealous. We pulled back for air and then got in the car. We went home and watch a movie before deciding to take a nap.
