•thirteen• we need to keep moving

*Addison POV*

We went around to a couple of more houses and filled up our bags, all of us staying in pairs to clear the houses this time. After awhile we turned back, we walked in silence most of the time and the rest of the time Michonne tried to make Carl laugh. We were getting closer to our temporary home when we heard gunshots coming from inside the house followed by the voices of men, we stopped in our tracks. Rick ran to us from the side of the house.

''Go, go!!'' He yelled in a whispered tone and it took a second for us to all turn and sprint away with him. We didn't question it we just ran, there's been a lot of that these days. After awhile of running away we stopped at a big red shed and I went inside of it to check it out, no one noticed me go inside they were all catching their breath outside. Inside of the shed were lots of old cars that were parked in an oval shape facing each other as if in display. I walked to the closest car and pulled off the cover revealing a red mustang and opened the driver side door taking a seat and letting out a breath.

"Addi!" I heard Carl call out worriedly. I smiled at how much he cared before answering him.

"I'm in here!" I called loud enough for them to hear me outside. I looked at the sheds door and watched them as they came inside looking at the mustang I was in with admiration. Ellie pulled the covers off some of the cars.

"These cars are gorgeous" Ellie sighed making me smile. Carl came over and took a seat in the passenger side next to me grabbing my hand and holding it in his.

"What were we running from back there?" Michonne asked Rick as she sat down on the floor leaning against a car.

"When I woke up I herd a group of men downstairs and I only just got out of there" Rick answered.

"So what do we do now?" I asked.

"We'll-" Rick started before Carl cut him off.

"Can we not go walking miles non stop again?" Carl whined.

"We have to get far away from that group" Rick replied.

"They didn't even know we were there" Ellie jumped in and Rick looked guilty for a second.

"Dad... What did you do?"

"I didn't do anything okay, it's just not safe here" Rick snapped at Carl looking at all of us. He breathed out and sat on the floor next to Michonne.

"I just want to find our family and get everyone back together" He said defeated.

"Everyone's gone..." I said quietly and Carl squeezed my hand.

"No. They're not. If we can find what's left of us then we can start a new home just like the prison but this time there will be no governor-"

"There will always be a governor Dad, There will always be someone like him out there that's trying to hurt us. That's just the kind of world we live in now and there's nothing we can do about it" Carl snapped at his dad before getting out and slamming the car door behind him, marching outside letting the roller door to the garage slam as well. Rick looked at me expectantly and I knew what he wanted me to do so I got up and walked outside. Carl was sitting leaning against the car shed with his arms wrapped around his knees, I went and sat down cross legged in front of him.

"I don't want another place like the prison, I want our old lives back. I don't mean old lives as in a couple days ago back at the prison I mean how it was before there were walkers. I want to go to high school and grow up, get married and have a family. I want a dog and I want to travel with that family I would have worked so hard on. I want to go to work and mow the yard on Sundays. I want to have a normal life, not this shit we call surviving." Carl had his outburst before I had the chance to say anything. He breathed out when he was done and I sat in silence.

"Come here" He whispered loud enough for me to hear. He laid his legs on the ground in front of him so I had room. I moved to sit between his legs as he pulled me close to him and wrapped his arms protectively around me. I listened to his heartbeat as he played with my long light brown hair.

"I love you" I said calmly out loud.

"What did you say?" Carl asked kind of shocked, neither of us have said that out loud until now because of how seriously we take it and I guess because of how young we are.

"You heard me" I tightened my arms around his waist as I cuddled closer into the curve of his neck.

"I love you too, I don't give you as much attention as I should but I love you so much" He kissed the top of my head.

"We will never have a normal life Carl and we may not be safe all the time but that doesn't mean we can't have all those things" I paused before continuing.

"We can find a farm house out in the country and farm our food like we did at the prison. Marriage is still possible it just wouldn't be a big ceremony like in the movies it would be something little, Maggie and Glenn are married. We wouldn't work to make money, we would work to improve our house and how we survive. We can still try and be normal" I was babbling trying to make him feel better.

"We can't have kids" He stated.

"Yeah we could. Not now of course but in the future, why not?"

"No we can't because I can't go through what dad went through, I couldn't lose you"

"What happened to your mum doesn't happen with all childbirth" I wanted kids in the future one day and I know Carl did too, he just didn't want what happened to his mum Lori to happen again.

"Yeah but there's a chance something could go wrong, I'm not going to let you take that chance-"

"Okay Carl, let's not talk about that right now. We can worry about it later."
It was quiet for a while after that. We just sat cuddling in each others arms taking in how peaceful and quiet it was around us, I could vaguely here talking coming from the others inside but other than that it was quiet. He pulled back from our embrace to look at me, He moved his hands from my waist and held my face close to his.

"You're beautiful" He said quietly looking into my eyes, before I had the chance to respond he moved in and kissed me softly placing his hands back on my waist.
