The Youngling on Batuu: Chapter 2

Chapter 2: Sold

Aka was only 6 years old when her mother was taken from her. She was 6 years old when she was sold to Keimana, an old shopkeeper. Aka never knew where her mother went. She just remembered her last words. As her mother screamed for her she told her to remember... remember...

Aka bolted awake. She looked at herself in the small mirror in her bedroom. It was cracked and dusty from the winds. But she saw herself nevertheless. She saw her brown hair, flowing down her shoulders, and her brown eyes shining in the sun. She saw her face spotted with freckles from working in the heat. She saw a beautiful 10 year old girl.

Keimana called for the young girl to come downstairs and "help her with the frying of the day" as she had put it. Aka raced downstairs and began to help her owner fry up small creatures for the breakfast rush. She stirred a pot of secret sauce that only she and Kaimana knew how to make. The secret ingredient was porg droppings- and the reason Aka decided against dipping her meals in the sauce. Although she heard it was quite tasty.

Aka worked until the shop opened for the breakfast rush. She snuck away to her room as soon as the doors swung open. She had discovered something she could do. She had the ability to levitate things at will. It took lots of concentration but soon she was able to levitate her small doll with ease.  It was on this particular day she was playing with her dolls when suddenly the door swung open. Two men, one with a brown beard and the other with a buzz cut and small braid both wearing brown robes and tunics, entered the room.

"Don't be afraid little one." The older of the two men said in a soft voice. "We have come here because of you!"

Aka began to tremble with fear, what did they mean? The younger of the two bent down.

"Hello there," He said In a soft voice. "My name is Obi Wan." He smiled at the young shaking girl. "You have something special about you. You see inside of you are-"

"-Midichlorians." The bearded man finished the young man's sentence. "Tiny organisms living inside of you. Allows you to harness the powers of the Force. Hello there youngling, I am Qui Gon Jin and I've come to bring you to Corascant- where the Jedi council will take you in."

The young girl gathered up her courage enough to ask. "Coruscant? Jedi Council? I- i dont understand..."
"You will have everything explained to you in due time. Now pack your belongings." Said Obi Wan.
"Bring nothing but the bare essentials. Clothes, blankets, and food for the trip should be enough" Qui Gon added.
The young girl packed her bags diligently. She threw in a change of clothes, an old torn up blanket, and some snacks she had hidden away from her guardian. Her hand grazed her doll as she hesitated. She swiftly threw the doll in her bag and ran to the older men who were heading down the stairs of the shack. Keimana was somber. She looked at A-Akazu's small round face.

"You will do great things Aka." She smiled sadly. "You are a jedi now"

The little girl shook as the men lead her away from her house and to their ship.
"Goodbye Keimana!" The youngling cried out tearfully.
But the dust and the jets as the ship began to take off, made it impossible for young A-Akazu to hear Keimana's reply.
