I laid in bed and starred at the ceiling. I looked over at my table to see the book I just finished. "The Crimson Crown" By: Cindy Williams Chima. She was one of my favorite authors. Her books were very detailed and all of her characters were captivating. I especially loved the forbidden romance between the main characters. Sadly it's another book with an obvious ending that lacked sophistication. Honestly, I just read her books because they make me feel empowered when my predictions during the story are always right.
I sighed as I reminisced in the thought of having your one true love. My cousin and I both loved romances. Mostly because neither of us were successful in that department. Truthfully, a lot of guys liked her, she even had a boyfriend once. But in the end it didn't end very well.
I always admired my cousin's beauty. She had short curly black hair and dark brown eyes that seemed to sparkle. She gave a new meaning to dark; even though dark is associated with negative thoughts and allusions, it still can take you in with a shine. She was shorter than me and had a bright smile. Completely stunning. To make things better she had great fashion sense. Anything clothing related she could make into the perfect outfit.
As far as I know, no one has ever liked me... I'm too quiet and conservative. But get me started and I most likely will scare you away.
My thoughts were interrupted as I heard my phone vibrate. I reached over along my bed and picked it up. To my surprise the caller ID said "Marcus Reece." I gasped as I started fixing my hair and straightening my clothes. I was just about to grab lip gloss when I realized how stupid I was acting
He cant even see me, I thought
I cleared my throat as I clicked "answer"
"Hey whats u-"
"What took you so long to answer the phone?" He asked nonchalantly.
From his tone of voice it sounded as if he could care less, but then why was he even asking?
"Well my phone was far away so it took me awhile to get to it," I responded with equal disinterest.
He sighed,"whatever, I just called to remind you about us meeting tomorrow at noon."
"Tomorrow? Since when was it tomorrow?!" He tells me this when its close to 11 o'clock at night!
"Since just now. See you later." And with that he hung up. I clenched my phone in my hand as my jaw dropped open. I could slowly feel my anger resurface. I was a volcano ready to explode. To meet someone so blasphemous and unaware of others never occurred to me. I buried my head in my pillow and started to thrash around. A small screeching sound flowed through my room as my brother walked in.
"Haven't you heard of knocking Kai?"
"If your done having your silly PMS moment mom wants us downstairs for dinner," he said as he slammed my door shut. My anger now spiked as I threw my pillow across the room. I reluctantly crawled out of bed and walked downstairs.
I hesitantly walked to the dinning table and eyed my seat. Something was definitely wrong. The dinner table was nicely set up and some what presentable. I looked over to see a big pot of chicken and rice. A growl entered my ears as I thought of the delectable food. I was just about to grab a fork when my mom walked in with a big smile on her face. She was wearing a long red dress that was strapped onto her right shoulder that clung onto her curves. Her hair was down and since it was thick it had volume which made her look exotic. Very simple but looked fantastic on her. As does everything...
"As you can see I'm going out with my friend Megan. Don't stay up late," She said with a little giggle afterwards.
"Okay, just make sure you don't come back drunk," not even looking at her.
She whacked me on the back of the head, kissed Kai on the cheek and waltzed out the door.
All I could think about was the food before me. I sighed happily, knowing I could finally eat when just as I reached for the pot the entire thing was snatched away by my brother. I glared at him as he licked the spoon and took it upstairs. In frustration I slammed my fork on the table and stomped upstairs.
I walked down the hallway and pushed open the first door on my left.
"Kai!!!!!!"
He sat up on his bed holding MY food on his lap. I weeved my way through all his trash on the floor and smacked his arm.
"What's wrong Ugzilla, can't use your words?"
I glared at him as I started searching through his cabinets.
He raised his eyebrows at my actions. "And what do you suppose your doing?"
If your going to take my food, then your going to pay for the pizza I'm about to order. I continue looking through his cabinet throwing shirts and games all over the place. When I was just about to give up I saw a small, black leather pouch in the far right hand corner. An evil smile danced across my lips as I raised it high in victory.
"I'm taking a $20, and don't expect change," I said to him. He just gave me one last look and pointed towards the door.
"Fine. Then please get out."
"Gladly. I would love to leave this pig sty!"
Honsetly! All around him was rotten food and dirty clothes. His bed was up against the middle part of the back wall with a window next to his cabinet. In front of was a desk with his computer on top. If you opened the drawer next to it you find all kinds of trash inside. On every wall was a super hero poster. That's something my dad and him both have in common. They were obssessed with comics and stuff like that.
Before I left I turned around and sneered "Clean up this mess. Even though it wasn't half your fault....it's still your job to clean it."
I ran out of the room just in time to avoid the pillow thrown at me.
"One Katura, Zero Kai," I whispered to myself.
