Chapter 9- Dance With Me?

I took a second to calm myself before walking down the staircase Tony pacifically told me to use for my entrance. The party was already underway and the team was questioning my whereabouts.

"Has she come down yet" Steve asked Nat.

"She's panicking right now. She's gonna be fine"

Bucky had already come down and had walked the room looking for me before making his way over to Steve and Nat to ask them.

"Have you seen (Y/N) by any chance" he asked.

"She's upstairs but she's about to make her entrance."

As Nat said that, I appeared on the grand staircase and caught the attention of most of the guests. The only person I was interested in seeing however, was Bucky. I scanned the room until I saw him. Black suit, blue tie and had that smile on his face. His jaw hit the floor and he was slowly making his way to the bottom of the staircase to meet me.

"You look stunning doll"

"You look very handsome tonight" You said as you fixed his tie. "You could never do this properly"

"You do know your not my wife anymore, this isn't your job"

"Oh I don't wanna ruin your chances tonight because you don't know how ties work."

"Come dance with me, you should be able to do this well after all I did teach you"

Like at Christmas, he took my hand to the middle of the  floor and began to dance. The entire team was watching as we gazed into each others eyes. He spun me around and I landed back close to his face. In that moment all I wanted to do was kiss him, when Tony speaking broke the daze we were both in.

"Well thanks everyone for coming out tonight. Here we toast to my best friend (Y/N) and Bucky Barnes! For 5 months we missed them but now, their back with us."

Tony then waved me on stage and the crowd pushed me up, away from Bucky. Then Tony worked to embarrass me.

"One day when I was speaking with (Y/N), I learned that she is actually a singer! So tonight I give you her and I've chosen you a song"

He whispered in my ear "My heart will go on" and I glared at him. I did not want to do this. Nat and Wanda were giving me reassuring looks and mouthed to me that I was gonna be okay.  This was my worst nightmare but I couldn't leave the stage now. 

"Every night in my dreams, I see you, I feel you"

I mean I do see him and feel him. I continued on with the song and failed to notice the whole time I was staring at him. He just smiled at me. That smile was worth a thousand words. While I was preoccupied with Bucky, I also failed to notice Wanda recording me.

"I never knew she could sing like this!" Nat said to Wanda.

"I did" Bucky called back. "I mean its a step up from ABBA and Queen"

Steve, Wanda and Nat just stared at him but he didn't feel like revealing more on the them.

"We'll stay forever this way, You are safe in my heart and My heart will go on and on"

I finished the song and received a standing ovation and saw Tony shed a tear. I was still kinda annoyed with Tony so I took the mic.

"Thank you Tony, for giving me no choice in having to do that!" the crowd laughed. "5 months I was gone. I didn't do it alone however, Bucky?"

You looked down at him turning red as you gestured him up to the stage. Steve gave him a push and he went up. He looked at me and I gave him a look of comfort. He came to the stage and wrapped his arm around my waist and began to speak.

"Stark gave me this mission and didn't tell me that it was (Y/N) that I was gonna have to pretend to be married too. For context, we hated each other. In the end, I'm glad it was her who I could spend time with because this women right here is the most stupidly funny girl I've ever met and I'm grateful that we are now able to be in. the same room together. Thanks everyone for coming, I need a drink"

He kissed my forehead, like a habit that he wasn't planning on breaking, and whisked me off to the bar.

"Two tequila shots please"

"Oh I'm having a beer"

"These are for me not you"

He laughed at that. I downed the two shots like they were water and he just stared.

"Sorry, ow it burns" He burst out laughing.

"I mean Stark drags us to a party, we gotta get through it some how. Come on, we never finished our dance"

Once more, he took my hand and lead me to the middle of the floor. I wrapped my arms around his neck and he put his around my waist. I wondered why it was me he was dancing with, I wanted it to be me but he didn't need to know that.

"So, lets set you up with a hot date"

"No, I'm good here"

"What about that girl in the corner" Your eyes wandered around the room to pick someone for him. It hurt you to do so but it would be good for him.

"(Y/N) stop it, I don't wanna go out with these women"

"But you won't even look at them"

"Look at me. The only women I wanna dance with tonight, is you. Nobody else okay?"

The song ended and you excused yourself and left through the elevator. Nat ran over to see what had happened and where you went.

"I messed it all up Nat. I was so close and now she's gone"

"Bucky slow down, what happened?"

"She was looking around the room for women to set me up with and I told her that the only women I wanted to dance with was her. The song ended and she freaked out. She took the elevator and left"

"You need to after her. You also need to tell her how you feel."

"What how did you-"

"Its kinda obvious Bucky, you didn't do that good of a job hiding it"

After that Bucky raced to the elevator and asked F.R.I.D.A.Y where I was. They responded by telling Bucky I was on the 54th floors balcony. He raced there and saw you standing watching over the city, all alone.
