Elsie Moore had been taught from a young age the difference between right and wrong, which morals to follow and how she should present herself to others. Her mother in particular had enforced these principles and would dress the girl in pretty pink dresses and never allow her to cut her golden locks anywhere above the elbows.
This had quite backfired and Elsie grew to rebel against the strict parenting. She was still a relatively quiet teenager and expressed herself largely through her actions, she had cut her hair a bit below the shoulders and died it black with her fringe a deep shade of red. Her clothing choices although not considered drastic in any form of the word, were very far off what her mother expected of her. Generally she wore some kind of rock band t-shirt with an oversized denim jacket and slightly loose fitting ripped jeans.
Starting high school, Elsie had only known one person: Nancy Wheeler, who had been her friend since elementary. Ever since meeting, the two had crossed every milestone together and become undoubtedly close. This friendship had led them to expand and become more of a group.
For the first two (almost three) years it had been them and Barbara Holland; or Barb as they affectionately referred to her as. That was until the events in Hawkins Indiana in 1983 when they had lost her to the cruel and mysterious realm of 'the upside down' where anything goes and monsters who are unwelcome here, spend their lives. In the grief and loss, they found comfort in Jonathan Byers who understood.
There was also Steve. Steve 'the hair' Harrington whom Nancy had had an eye on from the beginning. When they finally made it official though, it didn't take long for the constant bickering to begin. Steve had been madly in love with her but following a party in which Nancy got drunk and spoke her mind about their relationship, they broke up and it didn't take long for Nancy to move on and start dating Jonathan.
With her new boyfriend and the need to take frequent excursions together whilst trying to work out the problem Jonathan's brother was having after being stuck in the upside down, Nancy had less time for Elsie but she wasn't lonesome for long.
Steve and her became closer in the absence of other company, he needed her as much as she needed him. Much to everyone at school's surprise, the two chose to start a relationship. Many girls were envious of Elsie but she could not have cared less as she was perfectly happy with her boyfriend. That was.. until recently.
As much as she hated to admit it and as much as the thought of it grieved her, Elsie was falling out of love with Steve. She would never admit this to him though. She knew how much it would hurt him and how devastated he would be and she just couldn't bring herself to do it.
But still, she would lay awake as he cuddled into her chest with his arms wrapped around her middle and would be unable to shake the feeling that something was off, she wasn't happy like this.
For her friend's sake and for her own sanity, Elsie kept the feeling to herself. She couldn't help feeling guilty though, walking down the road with her hand interlocked with Steve's when they would walk past some pretty girls around their age and her eyes would linger slightly longer on them than somebody in a healthy, committed relationship should stare for.
The summer break was fast approaching though and with it, the end of Elsie's high school life. She planned on using this time to figure out what she wanted and would have optimum time to do so as Steve had told her about wanting to get a job over the holidays.
Authors note: I'M SO EXCITED TO START THIS, Y'ALL DON'T EVEN KNOW that aside though, please bear with me, the order of events and what happens to the actual storyline may differ yk :/
