Chapter Ten: The Start

"So, can I take you on an adventure, Miller?" Hayes questioned, grabbing a sports bag that had been thrown aimlessly in Beatrice's closet some time ago. Inside the bag was empty, but the bad itself was full of doodles (mainly of stars in silver fabric marker).

Beatrice raised her eyebrows, eyeing her bed and the door. She should either a) spend the rest of her boring weekend in bed, b) go on the said adventure with Hayes, or c) move to Kansas. Obviously, Kansas was random and if she were to stay in bed all weekend, she'd be as she was before; out of the loop. So, for the sake of herself, she grabbed the sports bag from Hayes' stern hands and began to wander through her drawers.

"What do I bring?" She muttered over the music. She picked up a shirt, decided it wasn't suitable for her anymore, and threw it behind her. The process remained, and if Hayes hadn't cut in to pick out her clothes for her, it probably still would've continued.

"Go talk to Lily and tell her, okay? I'll get your stuff," he assured, throwing in a pair of black socks.

Without hesitation, she exited the room (making sure to shut it behind her) and began her journey to find Lilian. Due to all the people crowding every aspect of the room, it didn't take a genius to know that this task would be nearly impossible.

Many minutes later, Beatrice found herself in the opposite side of the apartment (where Lily's room would be found) mulling through millions of bodies. Figuring it would be acceptable to open the door to Lily's room, she did as she thought.

She didn't expect to see many males and Lilian herself lazily sprawled throughout the room. An old movie was on the television and Taylor concentrated on putting a neat brain into Lilian's hair. Lily had a smile drawn on her face as she felt Taylor's fingers rake through her dark hair, the movie on the t.v. creating the perfect, romantic setting.

"Lily," Beatrice spoke, entering the room and closing it soon after. Lily turned her head slowly as Taylor's hands followed in suit. She gave a small smile and an almost unreadable nod of the head. "Remember Hayes?"

Taylor's eyes widened at the mention of his friend's name, tying a rubber band in his girlfriend's hair. "You know Hayes?"

Beatrice's eyes widened and her head nodded warily, "not to the full extent, but I've gotten the hint."

Lily's eyebrows pulled together at the statement, but she let it slide as she nodded her head.

"He wants to take me on an 'adventure'," she paused to add air quotations, "and I just wanted to let you know I was leaving."

She nodded with a sly smile on her face, "for how long?"

Beatrice sent a small shrug, "dunno. I have to get going though! I'll check in soon!" She hollered as she rushed through the many bodies in the apartment to reach her room on the other side. She entered the room with a small smile and giddiness in her eyes, "let's go, Grier."

Hayes smiled excitedly and grabbed her hand, swinging her sports bag over his shoulder. "Keep close, okay? I want to get out of here safe."

Beatrice nodded her head and let her feet follow his in suit. With Hayes' help, they navigated their way through the wave of bodies and made it to the front door. Beatrice then took the lead to the stairs and out the door, but Hayes had made it his job to call a cab.

"So," she trailed, "will you tell me where we're going?"

Hayes only shrugged, his face buried in his phone.

"Well okay," she huffed. Her eyes narrowed on the stars above and she watched intently as they glistened in the darkness. Her heart clenched at the thought of forgetting her book, "you brought my stars book, right? Please tell me you did."

Hayes rolled his eyes and dug in the bag, pulling out her thick stars book from the depths of it, "I haven't known you that long, but I've known you long enough to know better."

"Clearly."

Just kidding! I know I said this chapter would be longer, but I didn't realize how much I was forgetting, so surely the next chapter (which will reveal the adventure). What do you think about this chapter/book?
