I wake up with something wet touching my face. And it smells like fish. "Ew. Zoe! Get off!" I push the furry being off of me. I sit up and open my eyes. My dog, Zoe is panting with an expecting look. "Oh all right. You want food?" I yank the blanket off and jump up. I nearly stumble into a dresser but manage to continue standing. "Alright, let's go!" I pat my leg and open my door. She trots after me as we make our way down the stairs. As soon as I his the bottom step, I smell something extremely good. I turn the corner to see my mom cooking eggs and bacon with toast. "Hi Mom!" I hug her and she kisses my forehead. "Morning Raven." I sit at the table and mom sets a plate full of food in front of me. "Mmm. This smells amazing!" I grab a fork and am about to dig in when, mom starts clearing her throat. "Wait for your brother and sister. " I groan slightly and she rolls her eyes. Don't get me wrong, I love my siblings. It's just, I may love food a little bit more. While I wait, I decide to feed Zoe. I pour her food into her small bowl. She pants happily and starts chomping loudly. I sit back at the table and poke my food. I suddenly hear stomping and shouting emanating from upstairs. "Michael! I'm gonna get you!" I see two red-heads chasing each other through the house. "Nuh-uh Molly!" So, funny thing, my parents decided it would be a good idea to name my little siblings with the same first letter. They're twins after-all. I was obviously the black sheep of the family. Instead of being a red-head like the rest of my family, my hair was a light black. Sometimes it looked either blue or purple. Hence the nickname: 'Raven'. While my family has freckles and green eyes, I have ghostly pale skin and blue, almost crystal white eyes.
I don't know why I was born that way. When I was little, I was called a freak as school. My unique looks always would catch someone's attention. I wish it didn't. But, I can't blame anything so, I just deal with it. I snap out of my thinking when the twins sit at the table with me. "Hi Ravey." Molly wraps her tiny arms around my neck. Ever since they could talk, they've called me Ravey. They couldn't say 'Victoria' or 'Vicky' or 'Raven', so they stuck with Ravey. I don't mind though. If anyone else called me that, I would probably pound them to dust. "Morning my Molly." I kiss her hair and ruffle my brother's. He pouts and puts his hair back. The twins are eight years old and I'm eighteen. I'm ten years older than them and I wouldn't change it for a thing. I love that I get to take care of them and that they look up to me. "Hey Ravey, why do you look so tired?" Molly asks and Michael turns his head in concern. Sigh. Even though I am older, they feel the need to look after me and make sure I'm safe. Say if, I brought a friend over, they would fully inspect them and make sure they wouldn't hurt me. Although, I don't have any friends so, no need for that. "I don't know Baby, I slept fine, I promise." I smile at them and we all continue to eat. I did sleep well, it's just that I had a strange dream. There was a lot of fire, but it was purple. Purple flames and a language I didn't quiet understand could be heard. It was so confusing. When we all were finished, I heard another pair of feet running around. I roll my eyes. Mom has a strange boyfriend. He is easily scared of folk stories and legends. Especially ghosts. He has nowhere to sleep so Mom lets him stay. He's a sweet guy, he's just overly sweet and jumpy. "Jaime! Have you seen my keys?" My mom turns from the stove and sighs. "Over here, Will." He bustles through the kitchen and kisses my mom. Bleh. I know I'm almost an adult, but seeing my Mom kiss that guy is just weird. Now with my Dad, I was fine with it. But he died in a mysterious fire at his work. No one knows who started it but fifteen people died. My Dad included. Molly and Michael were maybe five or six. I miss him a lot. "Thanks Honey." He walks over to us at the table and tried to hug us individually. He tries to hug Michael but he flings a piece of egg and it almost hits him. Will gasps with a disgusted look on his face. He ends up ruffling Michael's hair and booping Molly on the nose. Just before he reaches me, I stand up. "I'm gonna go get dressed. Only a couple more days until I graduate." I quickly walk up the stairs and go into my bedroom. I move around my room slowly and pick out my clothes for today. I decide to go with this:
