WE IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE LIFT AND WENT TO AN OPEN BALCONY. I COULDN' T CONTROL MYSELF ANYMORE. I STARTED LAUGHING. ANDREW GAVE ME A PAT ON MY BACK. I SAID -

"WOW! WOW! WHAT A STORY!"

"YEAH I KNOW RIGHT. SHE CAN NEVER HAVE PITY ON US."

I STOPPED LAUGHING. ANDREW' S SMILE SUDDENLY TURNED INTO A FROWN. "WHAT IS IT, BIG BROTHER?"

HE HESITATED FOR A MOMENT. "ACTUALLY.............I HEARD THE MANAGER OF OUR COMPANY' S DIRECTING BOARD TALKING TO THE MANAGER OF THE VILLA' S DIRECTING BOARD."

"DID YOU GET ANY USEFUL INFORMATION?"

"WELL....... NOT EXACTLY. I JUST HEARD THEM TALKING ABOUT SOME MARRIAGE BETWEEN SOME BUSINESSMAN AND BUSINESSWOMAN." IT SEEMED AS IF HE DIDN' T KNOW A LOT. AND ANYWAYS I ALSO DIDN' T WANT TO KNOW ANYTHING MORE. IT WAS THE HABBIT OF THE DIRECTING BOARDS OF OTHER COMPANIES TO JOIN HANDS FOR MORE PROFIT. THE MAN AND WOMAN, BOTH WERE FORCED INTO SUCH KIND OF MARRIAGES WITH ONE CONDITION - THEY COULD ONLY DIVORCE AFTER COMPLETING ONE YEAR. MANY DIVORCED AFTER ONE YEAR BUT SOME DIDN' T. I OFTEN DIDN' T UNDERSTAND WHY THEY DIDN' T DO IT. BUT AFTERALL IT WAS THEIR LIFE AND THEY HAD THEIR OWN RIGHT ON IT. WHO AM I TO TELL THEM?

"LINDA, I THINK WE SHOULD BE GOING DOWN. MOM WILL BE WORRIED FOR OUR LONG DISAPPEARANCE."

ANDREW WAS RIGHT. MOM USED TO GET A LOT WORRIED ABOUT US, ESPECIALLY ME. WE TOOK THE LIFT AND WENT TO THE FLOOR WHERE THE PARTY WAS BEING HELD. MOM WALKED TOWARDS US WITH A STERN LOOK ON HER FACE. WE STOOD THERE LIKE BABY PUPPIES.

"WHAT MISCHIEF WERE YOU BOTH UP TO?" MOM ASKED.

I EXPLAINED HER ABOUT WHAT HAD HAPPENED. "MOM, FIRST SIYA MADE - UP A GOOD STORY OF PREGNANCY THEN MISCARRIAGE AND THEN SHE SAID THAT HER BOY - FRIEND BROKE UP WITH HER AND THEN CAME BACK TO HER."

"AND THEN WHAT?"

"AND THEN WE WENT INTO A BALCONY AND LAUGHED HEARTILY AT THAT JOKE MADE BY HER. I DON' T THINK SHE CAN EVER CHANGE."

"ANYWAYS, I WANT BOTH OF YOU TO COME WITH ME. RIGHT NOW." SHE ORDERED.

WE DIDN' T DARE TO ARGUE WITH HER. WE FOLLOWED HER SILENTLY TO ANOTHER ROOM. TWO MANAGERS WERE THERE. MY BROTHER WAS ACTUALLY TALKING ABOUT THEM. MY FATHER, MR. BROWNE, WAS ALSO THERE ALONG WITH MR. HARRY ANDERSON, FATHER OF NICHOLAS ANDERSON. THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT SOMETHING. AFTER A FEW MOMENTS, AN ANNOYED NICHOLAS ANDERSON CAME IN THAT ROOM. MY FATHER SAW US AND WELCOMED US WARMLY. I LOOKED AT ANDREW. HE GAVE ME A CONFUSED LOOK. HE DIDN' T KNOW WHAT WAS HAPPENING. MR. HARRY ANDERSON LOOKED AT ME FOR SOMETIME AND SAID -

"SHE LOOKS GREAT! SHE IS SO POLITE AND HUMBLE. I' M WILLING TO ACCEPT HER."

"THANKYOU, MR. ANDERSON. IT' S A PLEASURE." MY FATHER REPLIED.

I WAS HORRIFIED. I DIDN' T KNOW WHAT WAS HAPPENING. WHY WAS MR. HARRY SAYING THAT HE ACCEPTED ME? DO MY PARENTS WANT ME TO MARRY AN ALREADY MARRIED PERSON.

MR. HARRY LOOKED AT MY EXPRESSION AND SAID -

"DEAR, ARE YOU WELL? DID YOU THINK THAT I' M GONNA MARRY YOU?"

I NODDED MY HEAD. SUDDENLY HE BROKE INTO LAUGHTER.

"NOPE. OUR MANAGERS OF THE DIRECTING BOARD SUGGESTED US TO MARRY OUR KIDS WITH EACH OTHER. I MEAN YOU AND MY SON NICHOLAS. IT WILL GIVE YOUR COMPANIES MORE PROFIT."
