Monday, 3rd September, 2018. I remember that day like it was only yesterday. My first day at West Valley High School.
I'd moved into my dads apartment in L.A after an argument with my mum, she was never around! She popped in when she needed to pick up clothes or we (me and my brother) needed money for food and bills, but she was always with a new guy drinking in bars and going abroad. It was almost like she didn't care, I know she did but it she didn't show it well. After a long talk I decided that I'd wanted to move in with my dad and start a new life, which didn't leave me and my brother on the best of terms, but he's my brother! We will always be there for each other and will support the other's decisions.
My dad had lived in this neighbourhood for over ten years now. It wasn't much, but it was close to the school and the stores so it was good enough for us. There were a few apartments, but nobody really spoke to each other. It was old and damp but it was all my dad could afford (especially now, he got fired yesterday for calling a client a bit*h).
I woke up at 7, so I had plenty of time to get ready for my first day. I took a quick shower and got dressed in a long jumper, - which had a large, Harry Potter logo on the front- a pair of ripped, skinny jeans, and a pair of sneakers. I straightened my lengthy, fair hair, and made a healthy bowl of oatmeal. At 7.30 I had to wake my dad up, otherwise who knew how late he would stir. At 7.45, I kissed him on the head, grabbed the trash and waved goodbye, he wished me good luck on my first day and I closed the door. I took a deep breath in and felt a late-summer breeze in my face. I strolled through the neighbourhood towards the trash cans when an unfamiliar voice said "here, let me get that." I turned around to see a handsome boy around my age. He had gorgeous brown hair and hazel-coloured eyes which were staring back into mine. After what seemed like forever, I finally said thanks and we carried on walking.
"I'm Miguel, Miguel Diaz. I moved here with my mum and grandma about three weeks ago. You're new too right?" he said politely.
"Oh yeah, I moved in with my dad a few days ago, I wanted a fresh new start and I thought this would be the perfect place to be." We smiled at each other and were talking for a while. I felt really comfortable talking to him too, he was really welcoming and he had a wicked sense of humour.
"Do you wanna walk to the bus stop together? It will arrive in about ten minutes anyway." He said while putting the trash away for me.
"Sure! It's our first day anyway so it might be easier having someone to talk to." I felt a sense of comfort when talking to him it felt like we'd known eachother for years!
"Great let's go then!"
