Draco spent the rest of his year ordering muggle pizza once every couple of days to eat as he stared out of his studio window. He admired the small beads of rain gliding down the windowpane like glossy shooting stars across a cloudy sky. He never left his studio apartment once. Barely having the motivation to eat and shower, he found it difficult to sleep at night. Suddenly cutting off contact with his family, especially the entire wizarding world itself, he found it hard to cope with being both socially and physically alone. He found it much more of a struggle to cope with being alone and the lack of companionship without his mother being there to comfort him at times.
Although lacking the emotional connection that he wished he had, he made an effort to start brand new at the beginning of the new year. Draco strode across his apartment, making way to the door after grabbing his coat, ruffling his wet blonde hair in an attempt to shake out the water in his hair after his long-awaited shower. Grabbing his umbrella and wallet, Draco hopped down the small front porch stairs out onto the sidewalk, towards the center.
Draco strode along as the light rain pattered onto his sleek black umbrella, looking down at the floor, unwilling enough to exert effort in making eye contact with muggles and sending a small smile, as that appeared to be a polite gesture among them. The presence of muggles slowly began to get thicker as he got closer to London Central in search of proper groceries. Without noticing where he was going, Draco bumped into an older girl just about the same age as him as she struggled to find her way around the center with a map in her hand.
"Oh! I'm very sorry, I didn't see you there!" she exclaims in mild surprise, as Draco scowls in a tinge of disgust and embarrassment for being clueless of his surroundings.
"Watch where you're going you filthy mud-" Draco is cut off as she interrupts him from his habit of speaking coldly.
"Can you help me find the Kings Cross Station? It's my first day of work, and I'm quite lost!" She asked with a warm smile on her face. In an attempt to avoid any sort of interaction with muggles, Draco leans aside and walks on in the direction he was headed.
"Well that was quite rude," the ghosted girl mumbled to herself.
Draco continues his path to the corner grocery store and looks for his products as he steps inside the small building with a fresh ambiance. He stares at all the aisles of food and produce, then walks around them, looking for his produce. He pulls out a few muggle candies and cookies, along with the fresh produce and meat. Draco quickly checked out, shoving muggle money to the cashier after she checked all of his items, ignoring the one-sided conversation the cashier presented. Draco walked out of the store, pledging to himself to avoid grocery shopping as much as possible, and began heading back to his studio. He found no need to use the umbrella as the skies were partly cleared and the rain no longer danced down. As he approached the block of his apartment, he noticed how the houses and buildings were glowing brightly in front of the blue-grayish sky overhead. He admired the golden aura of the objects and the parted white clouds that shone through the gray ones.
As Draco approached the door of his studio apartment, he realized that he had locked the door and forgotten his keys. Cursing himself for being so irresponsible, Draco pulled out his wand from the inside of his coat and silently said "alohomora," unlocking the door and heading inside. Although he dared not to use his wand in the muggle world, especially in public, he definitely was not willing to contact the apartment owners saying he had locked himself out. Draco set down clumsily his newly bought groceries onto the counter of his small kitchen. Kicking off his shoes and hanging his coat, he walked into his bedroom, grabbing his keys and put them in his coat pocket, in an effort to never forget them. He had to become accustomed to this muggle world.
Draco propped open his kitchen window above the sink to let fresh air in after a few weeks of breathing stale air. He opened one of the cookbooks he had found, and attempted to make a muggle noodle soup called "spaghetti?" Draco chuckled slightly at the silly name of the dish and gathered his ingredients. The stovetop had been the most difficult to manage and after quite a bit of fiddling, he felt the need to set the stove a traditional way: "incendio!" he exclaimed, satisfied with himself for having the fun qualities of a wizard. He grabbed his pot and filled it with sink water. As he set the pot on top of the stove, he searched for the lid to cover it with. Once he had, he placed it carefully on top. Draco walked away to his bedroom in an attempt to lie down and ponder his thoughts once more. He had come across quite rude to the muggle he had met on the street today and regretted it dearly as he fell back onto his cold front once more that he had lived behind most of his life.
Being too distracted by his thoughts, he didn't notice the water overboiling and bubbling over the edge as the lid lifted slightly and foaming water spewed out of the pot. Noticing the odd sounds coming from the kitchen, Draco propped himself up, in an attempt to listen harder, and rushed out of the room down the hall. He approached the stove with a mad dash he hadn't noticed the puddle of sizzling water on the floor.
"Awh, fuck! Fucking muggle cooking" he cursed as his sock became drenched in boiling water, burning his foot severely. He hopped back to the dining room and sat on the chair, quickly ripping off his sock, revealing his burned foot. He stood up and tossed the sock elsewhere, hopping to his coat hanger at the front door to reach for his wand that had still been in his coat. He muttered a quick spell under his breath and healed his foot, only to come back to the kitchen with little water left in his pot and a watery mess all over the stove and floor. Draco put out the stove fire with an extinguishing charm and began cleaning the mess quickly with the help of his wand as well. In the end, he opted to eat take out pizza once again as he was not accustomed to cooking, growing up in Malfoy Manor with plenty of house-elves.
