Chapter 6

Kalpi was happy to be with her favourite thing!!! Computers and programming!! Yes she was a bit out of touch but then she used to update herself online and also with Prem.

It was great working with Prem and she smiled to herself thinking how he used to help her with her projects during her college days!

They both were in the same year as Kalpi had got double promotion during her school days due to her excellence in academics. And she was always more matured than her age. After her parents death she had not behaved like a child but like a young woman even in her childhood. She was scared of Kamla as Kamla used to be stern with her. But Vitthal baba treated her like a princess and he loved her a lot as he found a daughter in her a daughter he could never have. However Kamla never treated Prem n Kalpi as siblings even though Vitthal wanted them to. Kamla always said that she is not my biological child and so not mydaughter, but just like a daughter to me. And moreover I had promised her mother that when they grow up I will marry them off and now that she is no more I want to keep that promise.

But what if Prem wont agree or Kalpi wont agree. Kamla had said Prem would never say No to his mother and as to Kalpi I will ensure that she never gets to know any other boy as close as she knows Prem. She is obligated to us and she would too never say no!

Vitthal had felt bad about it. But then he thought after a few years Kamla would herself forget about all this.  It was not that Kamla did not love Kalpi! She used to do everything for her and also never let her feel that this was not her home, however she always trained Kalpi like a future daughter in law. She had taught her cooking at a very young age and even other creative work. Though she never came in between her education as Vitthal wanted Kalpi to study well. But she always informed Kalpi to do whatever Prem did.

So if Prem chose Science stream KAlpi had to choose the same and go to the same college. It was like she was married to Prem since time ageless. Only that she and Prem had never realised it.

However for her Prem was a sweetheart and a wonderful friend! He never troubled her like the other boys in her class did, never made fun of her, never took advantage of her friendship and was always there for help. Prem himself was a genius and they both were fond of computers and hence chose to take up Computer applications. 

In the last year however when Kalpi had topped the university and Prem bagged the second rank (10th rank in the university), Kamla did not seem very happy! She had made her displeasure obvious to everyone. 

What is the use of getting first and all? After all it is Prem who will be the bread winner of the family! Bahu se thodi na kaam karwaayenge (Will we make our daughter in law work?).

Kalpi had missed the motherly affection from Kamla. As she was more like a governess and a teacher than a mother. She used to envy Prem when Kamla used to make Prem sit on her lap or feed him and used to pamper him. She used to tease him calling mumma's boy and Prem simply replied making a face u r jealous!

They used to spend hours together working on projects and even many nights and had ended up sleeping on the same bed when they were exhausted. But never had they felt any awkwardness except for once! That summer's night was the one when Kalpi had realised she was attracted to Prem.

They both had to finish their projects for final semester and luckily they were in the same team! The written exams were over and so were the project vivas. However they were yet to submit their final project presentation wherein each team would have to submit a program written by them that would execute the task assigned to them. So they had decided to camp in Prem's room and work throughout the night. It was almost over but some final touches and they had to rerun the program and check if any glitches existed.  Kamla never had a problem with that though Vitthal used to be worried for Kalpi! He used to ask Kamla that it is not good to let them be behind closed doors that too nightlong!
