I groan as I sit up in our bed. Hearing the door slam downstairs, I make my way down to find Daniel sitting on the couch with his head in his hands. I quietly sit down beside him and rub my hand up and down his back gently. "What's wrong?" I ask. "It's nothing" he says before getting up and walking out to the garden, leaving me there alone. I've known Daniel for four years now and we've been together for three; as much as I have the urge to run after him, I know it's best to give him some space, especially considering he just returned from the studio, it can be stressful.

I sigh, feeling bad for my poor baby and decide to make him a milkshake. As I begin to get the ice cream from the freezer, I hear a loud crashing noise. Hurrying outside to where Daniel went, I find the barbeque grill knocked over. Confused and slightly scared, I look around for him. "Daniel?" I barely whisper. No answer. Before I can repeat myself, a pair of strong arms grab me, instantly recognising Daniel, I relax and breathe a sigh of relief. He takes me inside where he sits me on the counter.

"Ok, ground rules" he says, looking me dead in the eyes. Baffled, I wait for him to continue. "You do not, under any circumstances, leave our room" he orders. I stiffly nod. "No matter what, you remain dead silent". I nod once again, not knowing what was going on. "And lastly, you do not come looking for me. That's the most important rule" he whispers. "What's going on?" I question. He says nothing but grabs my waist, letting me down off the counter. "Go!" he yells after I hear the sound of a window smashing.

Almost breaking into tears, I sprint upstairs to our room, locking it behind me. I didn't know what was going on but I knew better than to break Daniel's rules. As I waited impatiently on the bed, I heard yelling coming from downstairs, along with glass breaking, shuffling around and...growling? I was bewildered and worried out of my mind but I stay put. Nobody seemed to be upstairs, which brought my nerves down in the slightest; or so I thought. As I shift uncomfortably on the mattress, I hear doors slamming open in the corridor right outside our room followed by heavy footsteps of multiple people. I wanted to scream out for Daniel but I also didn't want to attract any attention.

I knew they were going to get in, one way or the other, I just didn't want to think it. As if on cue, I hear Daniel yell as he darted up the stairs; but he sounded different, he didn't sound humane. The knot in my stomach tightened as my door was kicked in. Tears were streaming down my cheeks already as a large figure leaped onto the two men who were standing right outside the doorway. I threw a hand over my mouth to muffle my cries as I was glued to my mattress. I had no clue what I just saw, I didn't know what the creature was, nor how it got here. Once I heard the snarling fade into silence, I slowly but cautiously stood up. As soon as I did so, I heard a gunshot. My knees almost gave in from the wave of shock I had just felt but I had to find Daniel, he could be hurt. Afraid that the beastly critter might still be in the corridor, I decided to bolt downstairs forgetting all of Daniel's rules. Half way down, I heard a familiar voice, it was Daniel.

I turned around instantly. Seeing him lying there on the floor next to the two men from before, I dashed towards him. Noticing they were dead, I gasped before taking Daniel into my arms and inching away. I looked down at him, inspecting his bruised face before looking lower to find blood rushing from his stomach. "Oh my god" I cried before taking off my cardigan and wrapping it around his torso. He could barely move as he stared into my eyes. "Wait here" I whisper before hurrying into our room to find my phone. "What are you doing?" he manages to muster as I sit back down, bringing his head into my lap. "Calling an ambulance" I say in an obvious tone. "No" he gasps for air. "Daniel, are you crazy?" I say, a waterfall of tears cascading down my face. "I said don't" he groans, sitting up. "See? I'm fine" he chuckles. "No you're not. I'm calling an ambulance" I return to my phone. Within seconds, it's thrown into the wall, resulting in it to smash into shards. I gasp as Daniel suddenly stands up, grabbing my arm to stand up with him. "I'm perfectly fine" he says through gritted teeth, glaring into my eyes.

This isn't like him, Daniel never gets angry like this at me. I try to shake his hand off my arm, but fail. Promptly, he begins to sniff the air causing me to scrunch my eyebrows in confusion. I find it odd that he's standing up stably like he wasn't just shot in the stomach, let alone his strange behaviour. "Are you going to clean this mess?" I ask, looking around. He finally releases his grip on me. Ignoring me, he walks over to the two men, lifeless on the floor. "Yeah, you can start with them" I nervously laugh. I turn around to get him a gauze since my cardigan is already soaked red. My head shoots back as I hear the most chilling snarling sound. I freeze as I'm faced with the beast from before devouring the men's faces. I scream before bolting downstairs but stop in my tracks as the creature leaps over me, blocking my way as it stands in front of me, softly growling.

I can't move. I've heard the myths, I know exactly what this is; but I refuse to believe it. After constantly praying that Daniel comes and saves me, I realise it's not going to happen. I slowly start backing away before my back hits the wall. I gulp as I mentally prepare to be feasted upon. Shutting my eyes tightly, a single tear falls. Seconds pass and I'm still against the wall. Slowly, I flutter my eyes open to see Daniel standing before me, his head hung low. I run over to him and throw my arms around him. "There you are" I cry. He brings his head up steadily to look me in the eyes. Immediately seeing their colour, I pull away. I stumble back as I yell "Stay away from me!". I run to the kitchen and grab the biggest knife I can find before holding it out in front of me. I discreetly walk back out into the living room. "Move away from the door" I cry. "Sav..." he says, sorrowfully, moving closer to me. I back away "I said stay away!".

"It's me" he breathes. "I don't know who you are" I stand my ground. His glowing yellow eyes look into my brown, puffy ones. "Please, just let me out" I cry, giving up the tough act. "You don't have to be scared" he pleads. "Scared? I'm petrified" I reply. "Don't be... It's still me, I'm still Daniel" he explains. "No, you're not. You're a monster!" I yell before managing to push him out of the way and run out of the house. I search my pockets for my car keys, finding them empty. I groan before sprinting down the street. I didn't know where I was going, but it was away from here.
