Blue Curtis

“I don’t think so,” I muttered, my eyes taking in the bright mix of taffeta of tiffany blue. My cousin gave me a look, taking a quick picture with her phone, surprising me with its flash.

“I think so though,” Serena replied with smile, letting her phone slip onto the couch beside her, “it’s my wedding remember? Not yours.” I sighed and looked at myself again. I had no problem with tiffany blue, it was actually my favorite color, and it worked with my pale skin when the red my sister had tried to get me in earlier would’ve made me look like a vampire. The problem was the material of the dress. I’m not an expert on the names of the hellish piece of fabric, but it made my arm hurt whenever it caused friction. Then there was the problem of the taffeta that covered the entire bottom half of the empire cut gown.

“Please,” I muttered, shaking my head. “Do you really want a dress, that when you look back on your wedding day, will make you want to hang yourself?” She still shot me an annoyed look, but this one was actually attentive, looking at the dress after my words.

“Ok … I know you were just saying that to get out of that dress … and I hate to say this … but you’re right,” she said with a sigh, “Can you go get Kate and tell her we want a more timeless bridesmaids dress?” With a smug smile on my face I nodded, lifting the hem of the dress that was obviously meant for someone with a taller stature.

“Let me go find her,” I replied, my voice peppy and full of life, something that according to Serena was worthy of a dramatic eye rolling. It didn’t faze me as I stepped off the bridal pedestal. “She said she was just going next door right?” I asked and Rena gave me a nod, her eyes connected to her screen.

“Rita oh Rita,” I sang, giving Serena a smile as I slipped out of the room, entering a hall with quite a few rooms. I stood there for a second, seeing if I was able to figure it out with a deep thought.

“Excuse me Miss,” I heard a voice say, drawling me out from my thoughts. “Are you lost?” she asked, her almond eyes watching me as I started to shake my head.

“Not lost, I’m just looking for someone,” I replied and she laughed, looking at my dress.

“That’s the same thing dear,” she said with a sigh, and she about to walk off but I stopped her first.

“Do you know where Rita is?” I asked, stepping forward slightly to signal the women that I needed her to stay. Her eyes widened with realization when the words passed through her ears.

“You’re apart of the Tanner wedding party?” she asked, and I nodded, watching as she stole a look at my dress. I laughed and nodded my head. I could understand the disbelief because I felt it first hand.

“I know right?” I asked, letting my hands let go of the fabric. “It’s hard to believe that the family would allow this,” I started, my eyes never leaving the dress, “even as an option.” The women quickly shook her head, looking at the door to her left.

“I have to get back to my appointment, but Rita’s currently helping another client … but I’m sure they wouldn’t mind if you stepped in … considering-“ she started, but she cut herself off. She didn’t need to elaborate, so I just waiting there, looking bored as I waited for her to tell me which room Rita was in. “Room Five,” she said, slipping into the room as I figured out the way the rooms were numbered; Odds on the left, evens on the right.
