7:45.

"Calum Thomas Hood! You are late for school!"

I groaned as my mom continuously knocked on my door.

"Coming!"

I sat up and rubbed my eyes, still adjusting to the daylight. I glanced at my clock, 7:50am. Shit. I ran to the bathroom as quick as I can. I brushed my teeth, and changed into my favorite dark green flannel and ripped jeans. The usual. I grabbed my bag and ran downstairs, catching a granola bar from my mom.

"Thanks mom, you're the best. I have to go, see you later."

I gave my mom a quick peck on the cheek.

What? I love my mother, don't judge me.

I head out and get in my pick-up truck. Man, I need a brand new car. I'm not usually late for school, just had a tough night last night. Stupid school and stupid requirements and stupid teachers and assignments. I hate school so much.

After 5 minutes of driving, I see a familiar bright red camaro, with three figures leaning against it. I park my car in my usual spot and turn off the engine, grabbing my bag as I walk to the guys.

"Hood! What took you so long?" Ashton patted my shoulder as the other guys bickered about pizza.

"No way, pizza with bacon tastes better!" Michael argued.

"I like pizza more with just pepperoni." "I agree with luke on this one." Ashton says, as he grabs his bag from his car.

"Whatever, pizza is good."

More people gather at the hallway, as girls walk past us, giggling. Not to brag but, we are kind of popular. I mean, we have the looks and the talent. We agreed to just meet up at lunch, since we don't have the same classes. I enter Mrs. Higgins' class and walk to my seat. I pull out my iphone and plug in my earphones, waiting from something interesting to happen. Then, bam.

I see a girl enter the room, she doesn't look familiar. Her eyebrows furrow in frustration, she must've been looking for a vacant seat. Her eyes land on the seat behind me, walking towards it. Her eyes are as green as an emerald.

She taps my shoulder gently, "Hey, uhm, where's the teacher?" Her voice is as soft as a pillow.

Wait, did I just compare her voice to a pillow? I shake my head and stare at her.

"Uh, she always comes in late. You'll get used to it."

"Oh, okay. Thanks." She sighs quite loudly as she taps her foot on my chair.

"I'm guessing you're new here? Anyways, I'm calum." I smile at her, showing my pearl white teeth.

She shakes her head and smiles. "Nice to meet you, calum. I'm Emerald."

"Like your eyes." She knits her eyebrows in confusion.

"Oh, I meant your eyes are like your name. Green as an emerald." She laughs as she mumbles to herself.

I smile to myself thinking, Damn, she's pretty.
