𝐣𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐬𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐲-𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭cindy was lovely. she was tall, had a bright smile and she was kind.
cindy was clever and she was proud of that. at age sixteen she decided to stay on and complete her a-levels at sixth form and now, at sixteen she was well on her way to completing school.
music was obviously popular at school, it's all anyone really spoke about but she never labelled herself, she wasn't a punk or a rocker or a mod or anything like that she was just cindy. she enjoyed listing to roxy music and the sex pistols but also abba and the beatles, it varied a lot.
nigel on the other hand was more on the punk side but he wasn't afraid to admit that artists like chic and the beatles graced his turntable every so often.
he too was tall, seventeen, with glasses and some slight acne but that was, as his mother pointed out, 'just his hormones'. he was alright at school, very average, but it never bothered him, he got by. he ended up at birmingham art college anyway, so his ability to solve equations or name the tectonic plates was never really needed.

nigel first met cindy when they bumped shoulders at the record shop.
it was luck, it just happened to be that one friday afternoon the pair wanted to look in the same basket.
cindy didn't haven't any money, she didn't bring any with her to school but she wanted to see if any new records had appeared and perhaps the next day she would come back and buy a few.
but that's how they met, sending each other shy smiles and quick glances as they took turns sifting through the box.

cindy often enjoyed visiting the record shop. it was quite big and almost always busy. she loved to look at the flyers and posters that had collected on the outside window, the oldest one she managed to spot was from nineteen sixty-six!
nigel loved going too, he and nick often went whenever they had free time. nick was still at secondary school, so it was usually in the evenings or weekends that they would appear. the pair turned up so often that they frequently did jobs such as sorting through boxes of records or cleaning around a bit, to get a free record or two.

nigel was surprised he hadn't seen cindy before, but maybe he just didn't notice her. he noticed her now, definitely.
cindy had seen nigel before and she remembered he was with a friend and they were jokingly fighting and laughing as they looked through a box of records, but she only remembered them because she was particularly irritated that day and found the obnoxious laughing very annoying.
cindy and nigel weren't surprised when they saw each other again on another friday afternoon.
once again, they shared glances and exchanged smiles whenever they caught one another's eye. once or twice it made cindy blush.
as he walked past her, she caught a look at his record and decided to speak up.
"i like that one," she said, nodding towards the record in his hand, "it's cool"
"i'll let you know if it really is" he said, turning the record over to examine the back before smiling at cindy.
she returned the smile, quickly resuming her searching through the record box in the hopes he didn't notice her red face.

nigel did think the record was cool and was sure to tell cindy that the next time he saw her, that and asking her on a date.
